Hi there.  My name is Jennifer and I live right outside Olympia, Washington.  I decided to have the lap band after attending one of their seminars in Nov 2006.  Although my insurance was not going to cover the surgery without me jumping through a bunch of hoops first, my husband and I decided to move forward with the surgery and pay out of pocket.  Although it would've been nice to have my insurance pay for it, I don't regret it at all.  I think this is going to more than pay for itself in the years to come.   I met with Dr. Neal two days after Christmas 2006 and got the green light to have surgery.  Surgery was then scheduled for Feb 2, 2007.  This was my first time having surgery, so I was a little nervous.  The surgery went great with no complications except for after I started to wake up.  I wretched several times after surgery and had a really hard time waking up completely.  I was so groggy.  I lost about 10 pounds in the first five days because I wasn't eating nearly enough.  And by then, most of the swelling had gone down and I was starving!   After talking to the office, I was told I could eat more and just focus on healing rather than losing weight at this point.  I had my first band fill on Mar 8th, five weeks after surgery.  They put 1cc into my 10cm band and sent me on my way.  But I noticed that my appetite was still the same and I was still hungry.  So, I went back in today, March 13th, four days later, and they discovered that the band was empty.  Strange, but I guess not that uncommon.  So, they put in 1cc again and we'll see how it goes.  If the band empties again, then I might have a leak in my port.  Anyway that's my weightloss story.  I am also married and have a 7 month old son named Cameron.  I'm mostly a stay-at-home mom but also work occasionally as an x-ray tech at a nearby hospital.
