Lap-Band is gone!

Apr 13, 2015

Surgery was today. Finally I've been freed from the bands cruelty. Everything went smoothly and I was on my way home only six hours from my arrival. The only disappointing part of the whole experience was being told that I need to be put back on my CPAP machine. My oxygen levels fell into the 60's every time I dosed off. I knew that I have been struggling with my APNEA lately but I was not aware that it has gotten so sever. I hate those machines! I always dream I am suffocating or drowning and claw that darned mask off my face. Awe well, gotta do what I gotta do to stay healthy and stick around for my family, right? Now begins the 12 week countdown to my bypass and the start of my second journey ..... or should I say the final lap .... Feeling excited!

Time creeps by...

Mar 30, 2015

Now that I've made my decision the time just seems to drag on and on. I am set for surgery to remove the Lap-Band on May 20th but I will still have to wait another 8 to 12 weeks before I can have my second surgery. I choose to have a Gastric Bypass. I am excited and exhausted by the wait. My life and everything else (job/career) has to be put on hold for now and each day feels like it is getting longer! Ugh.... I am patient but this is killin me!

Farewell!

The time has come! My Lap-Band and I are beyond reconcile! May 20th is the great day of division! Surgery to be done in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the St. Francis Hospital. Then it is a twelve week wait for the next surgery..... Now the hard part, deciding which surgery to have! Bypass or Sleeve??? Hmmm... this is gonna be a toughie!

Not Playing Anymore

Mar 02, 2015

I amso tired of playing games with my disobedient body. I am 5 1/2 years out from Lap-Band surgery. I initially lost 120-130 lbs. but in the last two years have gained over 64 lbs. of it back. I also developed a sever problem swallowing anything... and I do mean anything! Cold fluids didn't even go down.

November 20 2014 I saw a Bariatric surgeon here in Missouri who explained that the swallowing problem was happening because even though 4ml. of fluid was an average amount to have it was swelling my esophagus to the point of choking. Dr. Le Grand proceeded to remove all my fluid and the choking subsided. One month later he added 1/2 ml. Everything was great and I could finally eat without chasing every bite with very warm water! Another month after that we added another 1/2 ml. of fluid. All was good for about a month but today I can feel that same tightness getting worse and I'm choking on my food again. It sure was nice though, even if for just a little while, to be able to go out to a restaurant with my husband and not get an insane look from the waitress while asking for a glass of hot water to go along with my order, or running blue in the face to cough up a hunk of something that just refused to go down! It was nice to be human for a while.

For now the plan is this: Lap-Band removal and eight weeks later, Gastric Bypass. I'm done playing!
