1.5 Weeks Post-op...

May 06, 2011

....and I am feeling great!  I am sipping, and eating small amounts of full liquid foods, pureed soups, cream of wheat, etc.  I am ready to advance!  Egg/chicken/tuna salad has NEVER sounded so good!  I have had very little pain, and often think "did this really happen?"  I have lost 12 pounds since surgery, loving my sleeve!

Pre-op Diet

Apr 15, 2011

No more hoop jumping!  Yeah!  Earlier this week I found out insurance approved the sleeve, I had to call and was told by the insurance company that they never received the paperwork (don't be afraid to be your own advocate!), but the office resent it and I was approved in 24 hours!

Last appointments done, physical, lab work, etc.  Now I just wait until the 25th, 9 more days of diet.  I am getting kind of bored with the liquids, hopefully it will go by quickly.

The Date is confirmed

Apr 01, 2011

So April 25th is mine, confirmed and held, yeah!!!  Insurance is pending, hoping to hear back next week.  Lots of hoop jumping these last 2 weeks, but in the end it will be worth it.

I am signed up to start a seminar series called "The Hunger Within", I have met with the therapist who wrote the series a couple of times individually and it has been very helpful, trying to identify my relationship (abnormal) and what purpose it serves in my life.  Despite my frustration with the pre-op counseling, timing, etc. I am immensely grateful for the extra push I needed to identify these head issues.

April 1 marked my 1 month mark or really trying on the preop diet, I have been replacing one meal with a protein shake, watching carbs, and really watching portion sizes.  I have lost 10 pounds and need to record measurements later today.

One more week of regular food before the liquid diet starts, struggling with the thought of food funerals... to do, or not to do....

In the beginning....

Feb 17, 2011

Well, I have never blogged before, but I have heard that it can be therapeutic, so I'll give it a try.

My name is Jenn, I am 33.  I am married with 2 young children.  I am a nurse (aka I should be taking better care of myself), I am a graduate student, and I teach, whew... not a spare moment!

I am currently in the midst of the pre-op hoop jumping, I have been going to my PCP for the last 5 months (started 9/10) for "supervised weight loss" with no results.  I have started therapy and some anti-depressants to help with the "head stuff" that goes along with this journey, which I am very thankful for, but that leaves little energy for weight loss right now, I am just trying not to gain.  I have been to the informational seminar and completed the insurance pre-approval and paperwork, I meet with the nutritionist/coordinator in 2 weeks and then my official psych eval in one month.  I am hoping for a surgery date the end of April, right after my last final exam.  The timing will be good, I'll have the summer off to work on my thesis and recoop.

I have decided on the VGS.  While initially I thought the band, I quickly changed my mind after minimal research, then I thought RNY, but have decided that the sleeve is best for me.  I CANNOT WAIT to start this journey!
