Here's my story...Been overweight forever!!! Tried everything, of course it all worked for a while then I would gain more than I lost!!! I finally decided I wanted to live...not only for me, but for my loved ones. I have a wonderful husband and two kids, my son is living his on life now, he is 21, married and a father himself to two boys, (which makes me a grandma!!) that leaves my daughter at home, she is 16 and absolutely amazing.
I chose RNY for my weight loss and don't regret a day of it. I got quite a bit of negative remarks from some family members at first, "you could die" was what I heard most. Did that scare me...Yes!! But I did it anyway.
Two months after my RNY I was diagnosed with clear cell renal cell carcinoma. "Cancer" way scary!!! Had a pity party, then pulled myself together, I realized how fortunate I was, no chemo, no radiation, just removal of my right kideny. All done laprascopically. In one day out the next, me and the kidney...Believe me, it was that easy. I feel better than I have in years. I believe that RNY saved my life, not just the weight loss, but with the cancer, I wouldn't have known I had anything wrong with me...kidney cancer has very few symptoms.
Well, that is my story, not much different than most others, just a little added twist with the cancer...but here I am to tell about it.
