Surgery.......

Sep 01, 2014

So I went in Friday for my sleeve, doc found out I also had a hernia and fixed that while he was in there.;) I will start off by saying I have a high pain tolerance. Friday night was horrible for me... I had a lot of pain, unbelievable nausea, and it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. Saturday I went for my leak test and vomited during it, and didn't stop. They had me on 4 nausea medications. I asked if I can stop taking the pain med dilaudid, as I thought it was that, well it was! I switched over to Tylenol and the nausea calmed down.

I still had alot of pressure due to the "air" that was used. Was finally released today. Showers worked wonders to help calm down. Today I kept down liquids!! After all that I am happily only gained 2 pounds, considering I was on IV after IV..LOL Well I'm still experiencing pressure in my chest and upper back, but doing ok. On the flip side my stomach feel friggin awesome, incisions look awesome... no issue..LOL trying to figure out my limits, but seem to be stopping at the 3oz mark for each meal. Seems to be working!!

My surgeon said, there are a few patients that need and extra day... it's not the norm.

Half way mark (pre-op) and Upper GI story

Aug 21, 2014

Well I am at day 7 of my 14 day pre-op ALL liquid diet. While yesterday was the day from hell I did slip up! . So I'v been on ALL liquids!!  I had my surgical testing done at the hospital. I had to fast for 12 hrs... really??? I'm been on all liquids, and NOW they want me to fast... UGH!!! they said the appt would take 2-3 hours.. great!!!!

SO I get there at 11am.. the nurse was awesome! I registered for surgery (got it out of the way), then she gave me all the pre-op instructions, blood work and EKG.

Then I was taken to the xray. They did chest xray, and then we started the upper GI. UGH... So I had to drink these crystals they called "pop rocks" I remember pop rocks being fun... these weren't...LOL After that I stood up on this ledge platform with my back against this VERY narrow "wall". They started taking pictures, with my cup of barium in hand. Next the radiologist said "ok start drinking".. ok it wasn't too bad, then he yells "faster faster", I felt like I was at a party... chug chug chug...LOL With that the wall I was leaning again starts tipping backward... Next thing I know I was laying on the "table". So I'm laying there and he says, "ok turn on your right side", so I turn, just when I get to my right side he said "ok onto your stomach". I thought ok and laid on my stomach. Next he says "back on your back". ok I get into position, then he says "on your stomach". Mind you these were not slow commands, and did I mention the table was VERY narrow I was half way turning on to my stomach and he yells "ok back on your back" ??? I never made it to my stomach.. LOL Mind you with all this tossing and turning my gown is riding up wear everyone now sees I have blue starry underwear on..LOL and the assistant was trying to be so nice and pull it down every time I moved, well I can't exactly move when she is pulling on my gown...LOL The commands keep being belted out faster and faster... I think he was trying to see how fast my big ole but could move....LOL at one point I'm on my stomach and the assistant hands me a "big water bottle type" cup with a straw in it, I thought great some water.. I can wash down this barium. The radiologist yells "ok drink fast".. I start drinking and it's MORE barium... WTF???  Very sneaky putting it in a container we can't see thru! I'm slurping and slurping .... do you know how hard it is to drink while laying on your stomach? Next thing I know the straw makes the "end of the drink" sound.. I pull the cup away and realize there is still more in there.  I re position the straw further down the cup and continue drinking, and tell the assistant. she yell to the guy, "the straw was messed up". She then says "that's ok just finish" I hand her the cup... remember I'm laying on my belly, so I am VERY full and now very gassy, I accidentally let out a burp, which I could not hold (at least it wasn't from the other end) and she yells back to the radiologist "she burbed".. .I thought REALLY??  LOL I almost started laughing.  Then the radiologist starts with the log roll commands again... faster and faster.. the poor assistant kept trying to pull my gown down, I said '' you don't have to worry .... it's a lost cause now".. she chucked.  So rolling a was.. at one point I did start laughing cause I was turning toward my left and he yells "ok back to the right".... I wasn't even close to the left yet.  Finally it was over and  the radiologist left. So she sits me up and tells me to take a minute as now I feel like a martini shaker... everything inside is all shook up and the room is kinda moving...She hands me a wet washcloth and says "here you can wipe cause you have a milk mustache".... we both burst out laughing. Upon leaving she said well I guess we will see you later, I looked at her, she said yes the day after surgery you have to have another one of these test??? I looked at her and she said wihout all the rolling around..  I said "Ok geesh cause there is NO WAY I can roll around like that post op!!" Her and I laughed.  Needless to say the rest of the day I felt very bloated, yet I was still hungry.

Jess

Anyways back at home I felt bloated. But I was starving.... so I did had a 1/2 cup of lowfat cottage cheese which I did chew up about 30 times each spoonful , so it was basically liquefied as it would have been in a shake, but OMG was it good to chew!!

Pre-op.. can suck it!

Aug 18, 2014

Ok so my surgery is 8/29... the countdown begins!! Anyways I'm on day 4 of my ALL LIQUID pre-op.... I'm dying here!! I can't get these shakes down. I am on Bariatric Advantage (thru my Dr) I can mix in fruits, have jello, broth, and popsicles, but these darn shakes are too sweet. I was always a sweets/candy kinda girl.. heck how do you think I got to be the weight I was??  Today is day four I was dreading eating.... another sleever advise to try the Swanson's other broths.. OMG I'm in love!!!! The tortilla broth was freakin awesome!! I feel so full!!! That was the boost I needed...

This pre-op can kiss my big ole butt!!
