It Finally Happened...

Aug 28, 2005

I am finally off this little plateau I have been on for the past few months.  I weighed myself at the mall this weekend (our scale is packed and in storage).  I am now officially part of the century club. I am down exactly 100 lbs from my starting weight.

I can only attribute the plateau being broken by the eating habits on our vacation this month.  We visited my daughter's grandparents in West Virgina, and her grandmother has not cooked in 3 years due to health reasons.  They eat out, or nuke a frozen dinner.

So we ate out every meal.  Lots of greasy fat filled food.  Started out each day at the Shoney's breakfast bar with eggs, fried potatoes, and biscuits - all topped with wonderful sausage gravy.  Most of the other meals were at a restaurant called the Dutch Pantry - mediocre food and definitely not low fat.

Also I find that when we eat out more I eat more salad so the added fiber was probably a catalyst as well.

Trying to keep up the good eating habits from vacation.

One Year Update...

Jun 30, 2005

One year ago tomorrow I was going under the knife to have my guts rearranged.  It has been a good year.  I have:

lost 93 lbs.
gone from a 54" waist to a 40"
gone from a 3X shirt to an XL
Normal triglyceride levels from being in the 600's
Normal blood sugars (less than 100) with no more diabetes meds.

Life is good.

Challenges I face because of the surgery, but well worth the results.

Eating enough - I eat (graze) throughout the day for a total of 3500 to 5000 calories daily
Eating enough fat - If I don't get 50 to 60 percent of my calories from fat I suffer with dry skin
Drinking enough water - I really don't like water unless its really, really cold, but I am doing better
Taking my Supplements - During the week I have a great routine, but the weekends get me off track,  here's my schedule:

6 am - 3 Tender Iron from Vitalady
8 am - 1 Calcium Citrate 500 mg, 1 B-Complex, One ADEK
9 am - 1 Calcium Citrate 500 mg, 1 Multivitamin
10 am - 1 Calcium Citrate 500 mg, 1 B-Complex, One ADEK
11 am - 1 Calcium Citrate 500 mg, 1 Multivitamin

I am not always exactly on time, but I keep the pattern and spacing.

I am right on track with my weight loss.  By six months I had lost about 70 lbs, so if theories are right, I should be a goal by my two year mark.  My body switched from overdrive weight loss to slow and easy about 3 month ago, so I only weigh monthly now.

I have increased my exercising now that the weather is better here in Oregon.  We're walking as family each evening which is good for our physical and mental health.

I am look forward to another year with smaller sizes and new clothes.

It's a Great Day!

Feb 05, 2005

It's been a little over 7 months since my DS.  I weighed myself this morning and I am at 240.  I've lost 90 lbs. so far, 60 more to go til goal.  That's 69% of my excess weight gone forever without the frustrations of trying to lose the weight before surgery.

William, my son, and I went to a Portland Blazers game last night.  We sat in nosebleed seats, had to climb many steep stairs to get there.  I would have been huffin' and puffin' before, but it was effortless last night.  And since the Blazers scored a 100 points we all got coupons for free Chalupas at Taco Bell.  We going to really enjoy them!

Have a great day!

Celebrating with New Numbers!

Dec 24, 2004

Merry Christmas!

My greatest gift this year is stepping on the scale and seeing another 5 lbs. gone FOREVER!  I've lost a total of 80 lbs. now.  That's approximately 47% of my excess weight.  After starting out in a tight 3X shirt, I'm in an XL.  Down from a 54" waist to 46".  I can almost buy pants at Costco!

Hope everyone is having a joy filled day.

Peace and Blessings,

John
