My Story: I am Jill, 37 years old and I’ve been married to David for almost 8 years and I have two beautiful boys Cody (almost 5) and Wyatt (2.5). I was adopted at birth and really have had weight issues my entire life. I have been an emotional eater, a binger, a purger, a bulimic, a yo-yo dieter, a pill popper (ephedrine) and an overeater. Over the past 20 years, I’ve done: Diet Center, Herbalife, Weight Watchers (a few times), Phen-Fen, Ephedrine, Many over-the-counter diet pills, Weight Watchers again … and Optifast. After all these years and diets has wreaked havoc on my body. I have health issues with my hormones being totally out of whack, mild to moderate sleep apnea (getting fitted for CPAP 12/14/06 with 2nd sleep study). I am depressed, I am pre-diabetic, I am in pain (joints), I am “fat, fuzzy & frazzled!! I swear I have thyroid problems, but the tests all come back “within normal range”. With my biological mother being on Synthroid for 23 years and my ½ sister having Papillary Thyroid Cancer at age 27 … it seems obvious genetically I am pre-disposed to thyroid problems. Another battery of tests is being done as I write this. In the past 18 years, my weight has not been below 200. My first year at college put me over that mark and I’ve only been close to that once when I was using ephedrine products. That was August 1999. Since then, I’ve had two great boys and a mediocre marriage. My last success was actually with Optifast in 12-04 to 03-05 when I lost 42 pounds. In all honesty, I loved the vacation from food. I didn’t have to make any choices – it was simple – I was having a shake or a bar. So, my lowest then was 228. Today I weigh 299.7 (11/9/06). Makes me sick to be at 300#’s!!!!! I have my first consult with Dr. Coster at Grinnell Regional Medical Center on 12/7/06. I am SO excited!!!! Because of the health issues I have and the insurance (BC/BS Alliance Select) I am 99% sure I’ll be accepted for WLS. That’s it for now! Jillybean 11.9.06
