I am a 33 year old mother of 4. I began to gain weight at the age of 13 when I broke my ankle and severed ligaments in a mountain climbing accident. I was unable to do regular activity for the next 5 years when I finally had surgery to correct the problem. By the end of that time I was about 100 lbs overweight. I began dieting and lost about 100lbs over the next 3 years feeling great about my accomplishment.
I kept it off for 7ish years and then I got married :-) I gained 60 lbs in 2 months from the birth control alone. It only went down hill from there. I gained roughly 90 lbs with each pregnancy (granted about 30-40 of it was water weight) but I never got back down to my pre-pregnancy weight before getting pregnant again. (my kids are all just over a year apart each) Needless to say in the end I was close to 200lbs overweight. This was very discouraging because of my hard work to lose it the first time.
I started looking into WLS but never had insurance that would cover it. This year I finally got an insurance that would cover up to 15k of weight related medical treatment. So, here I am :-)
I have lost a large amount of weight before so I am confident that I can do it again. I am excited to have this tool to help me keep it off once I get to my goal. I am looking forward to having the energy and stamina to play with my kids AND get all the work done around the house I need to. I am also looking forward to having a better self image again. It is amazing the difference in how people treat you when you are slender vs overweight.
