My Surgery

May 30, 2008

I had surgery on May 21. I spent the night at the hospital the night before so that I would not have to fight traffic the next morning. I would have had to drive through down town Dallas. My sister went with me to drive me home. I was laying in bed that night wondering if I really wanted to go through with this surgery.... I was so nervous and scared. But I knew in the end that it was the right thing for me.

So I was waken up at 5 the next morning and took a shower and had my lab work and registration done.  Then I waited until 9:30 until the nurse came to get me for surgery. My sister slept this whole time!

I was put in a waiting room and spoke with the surgical nurse and anesthesiologist.  Then at about 10:20 the Anesthesiologist put a nice little dose of "night night" drug in my IV and I was out!

I slept and slept! (For about 6 hours) I don't remember much, until I woke up and the nurse asked me if I need to go to the bath room. I DID!

I was up every 2 hours to go to the bathroom and then I would take a walk around the nurses station.

Then back to bed!  OOOOOHHHHH how I hated the respiratory therapist! That little thing that I had to blow into HURT! And every 2 hours in they would come and I would have to blow on that thing again!

Anyway, the next  morning I had a leak test and I was GOOD!  No leak.

So I walked, sipped, and slept all day (except when I had to blow in the the thingy)

I got to see my sleeve buddy Emma at the Hospital! That was neat, because  we met on hete before surgery!

I had to get 5 ounces down in 30 minutes before they would let me leave, but I was able to leave around 7 that night.

The pain wasn't fun, but it was nowhere near as bad as my C-section. The nurses and staff were great!

The only thing that I was not happy about was... I never once saw or talked to my Bariatric surgeon. I have only met with him 1 time ever! Afterwards I felt very strage about that!  He did an awesome job on the surgery, I just thought that it was kind of odd.

I was off pain meds within 3 days and have been walking, and sipping! I am down 17 lbs. in a week.  That is crazy and awesome at the same time.  I am having a hard time getting all of my protein in, even if I sip all day on an Isopure. I am still working on it. I am ready for mushy food!!!
