I have not always been overweight.  I actually was born a preemie.  I weighed 4 lbs at birth due to the fact that I was a twin.  Growing up I was always taller than my friends which made me always look bigger than other kids my age.  When I was about 13, I started to gain weight and when I turned 16 I had reached the point that I needed to start dieting to keep my weight under control.  I remember going to Weight Watchers as a teenager and feeling like an outcast because none of my friends had a weight problem.  As I got older I gained and lost and gained and lost.  Prior to marriage I was so nervous of how I would look on my wedding day that I started a liquid diet, supervised thru a hospital for over 4 months and lost 65 lbs.  For over 4 months I had no food in my mouth.  I looked great on my wedding day but as soon as I came back from my honeymoon I had to have my gall bladder removed due to extreme and fast weight loss.  I never lost much weight after that point and 3 years after marriage I got pregnant.  I weighed 290 lbs when I became pregnant with my son and gained almost 65 lbs on top of the weight that I gained back after marriage.  Needless to say I have only lost about 40 of those pregnancy lbs.  From the time I got married which was Nov. 2000 until today, I have gained 100+ lbs.  I thought about WLS in the past and went to a seminar a few years ago but my husband was nervous because WLS was just being talked about and the survival rate was not great.  Another issue was that my insurance would not cover it and I was planning on becoming pregnant.  I started thinking about it again seriously after a friend of mine talked to me about it and referred me to her surgeon.  After my consultation, I left the office so excited because I actually felt ready this time around.  I am going thru all the tests now and hope to have a date by Jan. 2008.  I feel so fortunate to have this friend in my life because she answers my questions and helps me to be the most knowledgeable I need to be going thru the process.  Will keep you updated as I go thru the journey to a healthier and happier me.
