10/3/09 - Hello OH! My name is Crystal and I'm a 32-year old (almost forgot how old I was...lol) single mother of 1. I've been overweight my entire adult life. My heaviest was 282 but today I'm around 265. I tried so many diets...you name it, I've tried it! Nothing worked for me in the long run. I researched WLS about 5 years ago and was too afraid to go through with it. But I'm back and I'm ready! My family wasn't supportive at all when I looked into the surgery before and I'm sure they feel the same way now. I have a few people in my corner and is always looking for more.
This past Wednesday, 9/30th, I decided to start the process again. I called my good friend who was also thinking about the surgery years ago with me and she had the surgery this past April! She's down 80lbs already and feeling great! 
Now it's my turn. Well, first things first. I decided to keep the same surgeon team I picked years ago...Dr. Abkin/Dr. Bertha. Something about them just made me feel comfortable. Now the insurance company. I spoke with my insurance company and they did not require the 6 months of dr supervised diets by last insurance company required! WHOO HOO! I met all the requirements already for my insurance company except for the psych eval. They also said that it's a good chance I can have the surgery by Thanksgiving. YES! 
So, I will attend the seminar on Oct 15th. Then my appointment for the surgeon is Oct 21st along with the nutritionist and psychiatrist. This is going pretty fast. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I've already given up my diet soda (8 days clean so far...lol). I'm looking for lots of support from you guys on OH. I want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to hear from newbies and veterans. Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated. Let the journey begin!
