Oops March just FLEW by

Apr 01, 2011

I blinked on February 28th and next thing I knew, March was nearly over and I was turning 45.  I think I had the best birthday (finally - I was due one).  I didn't do anything great, just went to dinner with my 3 daughters to Not Your Average Joes.  It was so yummy and pretty cool because I was able to keep to the theme of the year - moderation!   I totally scored with Best Buy before dinner and got a BRAND NEW 32 gig Itouch which didn't cost me a penny! It's a long long story - my warranty expired in January so I took my 3rd gen 16 gig in and had to get it repaired (on the last day) The POJunk replacement's screen was lifting so I took it back - and they gave me a 4th gen with camera.  It made for an AWESOME birthday and my new addiction (since food is out) is ELECTRONICS. I think I am turning into a geek.

Okay but on the losing weight stuff - it's going good - I got a new blouse a month ago, this month I was able to acutally button it across my "girls" and I am down another size jeans.  I have a long way to go, but I am patient and happy to lose 1/2 to 1 pound a week.  To me, that's good and healthy!

Yay Team Joni!!!

One month down

Feb 10, 2011

I am one month in.  I had my follow up with my MD yesterday.   I asked about my not getting a "Full" signal to my brain when eating.  The surgeon said to keep measuring my food.  I guess I will have to rely on that to know how much food to eat.  I really don't mind that I still don't get a stop signal still.  I have rules to follow on how to take care of my band and I plan on following them.  I do stay satisfied longer.  Last night I had a burger and it was delicious.  Amazing - I didn't wake up starving at 4am so my body must have needed that extra density to digest.

Weight loss is going as planned, about 1.5 pounds a week.  I am not going to post my weight from my home scale any more because it appears that it weighs me 2 pounds lighter.  Instead I will wait and post the MD's weight...that's why my weight loss ticker isn't showing any changes.

Well I am two weeks post op now.  The first week SUCKED!!! I was so miserable and in so much pain.  But now I have come around the corner and started feeling better.  I go back to work on Monday so this weekend I need to focus on my food strategy.

Today

Jul 03, 2010

I had another phone call with my Tufts coach yesterday - So I lied about the progress that I am making but oh well...I haven't been doing so good about my walking lately because I had a procedure and I just don't feel good.  I am tired and whimpy.  BUT today, I got up extra early and went to the gym and did a water aerobics class which ended up being a blast! I am for sure going again.  Still doing good on the chewing, not drinking water with a meal and making a meal last 30 minutes though.  My next call is July 28th the same day as my surgeon appointment.  The sleep study follows on July 30th.

All is well on the Eastern Front

Jun 19, 2010

Nothing spectacular going on here.  Still doing my goals for ICanChange. Still chewing my food, sipping my water and walking 3 times a week.  I have lost 8 pounds doing this..it's pretty amazing because I am not trying!

My stomach is still constantly burning.  i am going through 2 containers of tums a month.  guess I don't need to worry that I am not getting my calcium.  I am probably going to ask my Primary MD for an endoscopy in August, just to make sure there isn't an ulcer.  Probably smart to be reassured before the WL surgeon goes mucking about in my innerds.

Also, I am having an ablation on Monday...that should take care of my vitamin B deficiency!  I am nervous but glad that it's being done!

So that's all...going out today to enjoy some sun!

Norwood

Jun 10, 2010

I went to the orientation at that facility last night.  I really like the approach of the practice!  I signed up today.  My consult is on July 28 with the surgeon.  They are sending me my psychiatric profile test that I mail back.  Then I go in to meet with the pscy and nutritionist on one visit.  After that, I just need to wait for my approval date!

ALSO! I had to send in an exception form to the medical director of the hospital I work at he approved me for out of network, which means that I have NO OUT OF POCKET the surgery AT ALL!!!!!  My only cost will be $25 to the surgeon as well as $175 for a program(psychiatric) fee!

YAHOOO Great news!

Newton-Wellesely

Jun 03, 2010

I went to Newton-Wellesely's orientation.  It looks like a great program for RNY.  I really liked Dr. Partridge and I am glad that it's a woman that does the surgery.

I was struck when she said Obesity is a disease and should be treated as such.  This was  profound for me.  My mother disagrees though and feels that Obesity is a choice.  When we were talking about it she said she isn't overweight because she knows if she eats too much of a bad thing, she will gain weight.  I said, well I know if I eat too much bad things, I will gain weight too but I can't control the quanitity.

Thats where I think the surgery will help.  It will help my stomach tell my head ALL Done!  I know there is a mental component but right now, it doesn't work in conjunction with my stomach I think the surgery will help me get it all together.  I have lost weight before...A LOT of weight and have been at my goal but I was unable to maintain it because my stomach said I was starving to death.

If the beast is no longer egging me on, I think I stand a chance of losing and more importantly, maintaining the weight loss.

Next Tuesday, I go to Norwood Hospital to investigate the Lap Band procedure.

Weekly update

May 26, 2010

I went to my MD today for follow-up on the omeprazole. She suggested Zantac once a night.  So that's good.  I cut out ice cream for the most part because I made a no ice cream/sweets after 6 rule.  So far it has helped decrease the wake up at 3am with barf in my mouth thing.  (There is no nice way to say that)  That rule has also decreased my ice cream intake to only on weekends since I don't get home until 4, dinner at 5 and I never really WANT ice cream until 7 or 8.

I also am heading tomorrow to visit Newton Wellesely with my friend Sheila who had her procedure done there.  They only do RNY.  I also made made an appointment to visit the program at Norwood Hospital's program.  They only do Lap Band.  I figure this is a "discovery period" and by the end of all the visits to the different programs, I will be able to make an intelligent, informed decision.

Belly dancing

May 22, 2010

Last night, I was reading a friends facebook status and I noticed that she ( a very thin pretty girl) was bemoaning her belly..she went on to say that it will soon be gone with a good diet and dancing in her living room.  Anyhow,  belly+dancing clicked in my mind so I googled Cape Cod and belly dancing and found a class right across from the college!  I called the instructor and talked to her about my body image, insecurities and the disability with my foot. (I had a bunionectomy and another toe broken in February, it's still sore and swells)  She reassured me, was very understanding and soooo..I did it!!! I signed up for belly dancing!  I am so excited and can't wait to go jiggle.

I read that you burn 400 calories in 1 hour of belly dancing and that it is good for your core.

I signed my mom up too LOL!!! She is almost 70 -  she said "Thanks a lot Joni" LOL!!!
