Long overdue update!

Apr 07, 2009

I had RNY three years ago April 10th 2006. I have lost a total of 177 pounds at my lowest and range within 6 to 8 pounds of that.  My surgeon was Dr. Mirande in Klamath Falls and he is wonderful.  One year ago on April 8, 2008 I had an abdominalplasty and blephoroplasty of all four eye lids.  Six and 1/2 pounds of skin and fat were removed from my abdomen.  On March 23, 2009 I had a breast reduction and lift and am doing well.  Lots of bruising which I tend to do, but it was an uplifting experience!!   Dr. Mark Jewell in Eugene did my plastic surgeries. Having gastric bypass surgery was the best thing I could have done for myself and my family and I am so much healthier now.  I was 57 years old when I had bypass surgery and am now 60 years old and know that I would be dead or in a wheel chair by now if it were not for this wonderful surgery.

Plastic surgery over!

Apr 13, 2008

I had an extended tummy tuck and quad. bleph on April 8, 2008, almost two years from my RNY surgery date.  I have had minor pain/soreness but as of today I have not taken the narcotic pills for it---only tylenol.  My eyes are swollen but improving.  My eye stitches were removed yesterday and hopefully will get my drains out of the abdomen next Friday.  I will be happy when they are gone.  My Plastic Surgeon says he took off 6.5 pounds and a foot of skin.  I can see a big difference in my eyes and also in the abdomen but it is also quite swollen.  I am pleased with the results and am sure I will be very happy, when the swelling  is down.  So far--well worth it.   Pictures soon.

Plastic Surgery Scheduled

Mar 27, 2008

It is 3-27-08 today.  I am scheduled for my Tummy Tuck and Blepharplasty on all 4 eyelids on the 8th of April.  I can honestly say I never thought that I would actually have a TT.  I have a large pannus and will be so glad to be rid of it forever!  I am paying cash for it as my insurance won't cover any surgery like this.  I am o.k. with that.  I will try to keep updating more often and maybe some pictures of the tuck.

Finally---an update!

Jan 20, 2008

I will be 2 years out on April 10 of 2008.  I haven't kept updating my profile like I thought I would.  So many things to do now that I can do them.  I am so grateful for this surgery.  It has given me my life back and it is great.  I have lost a total of 169.8 pounds and am very close to goal.  I am 5' 4.5" tall and would like to be at a normal BMI, which for me will be around 147 pounds.  I am currently 151.2, so like I said---CLOSE!   I hope to have a tummy tuck next summer or early fall.  If you are thinking about WLS, do a lot of research and then go for it.  It has been so worth it for me.

May 18th 07 update

May 18, 2007

Here it is almost summer!  My weight loss has slowed down considerably but still plugging away at it.  Today I have lost a total of 140 pounds.  I would like to lose another 30 to 40 pounds before considering Plastic Surgery.  My 59th birthday is in September and would love to be at my goal at that time.  It is a tall order however, but am going to work hard at it.

WOW one year post op

Apr 13, 2007

On April 10th I celebrated my one year surgiversary.  What a year it has been.  I have lost a total of 134.6 pounds and my BMI has gone from 55.1 to 32. That is from super obese to obese!  I am 5' 4 1/2"  tall.  I reached a loss of 100 pounds on October 25th 2006.  The weight loss has slowed down but continues and I have no doubt I will make it to my goal of being in the normal BMI range.   I can't even begin to list every wonderful thing that has occured this year, directly related to my RNY surgery.  My lab values have been great except slightly anemic at my 5 month check-up but was resolved with use of Iron supplements.  Life is great at 58!   I will try to post new pictures in a week or two.  I have made many new friends on line, at the Oregon obesity help forum and my April 2006 surgery buddies who are the best group of people and very important in my success.  I thank God daily for their support and friendship and hope everyones surgery month forum friends are as great!   I have met and become friends with many others in the state of Oregon and attend a support group in Roseburg as well as our fun get together group in Eugene.  Here's looking forward to  an equally great second year.

Tomorrow is a new year. Boy do I feel better this year than last year. I was just starting to think that this surgery was my answer, and it has been. I would be disappointed if I never lose another pound, however the surgery would definitley have been worth it. My health is so much better. I am off of all my medications--no more blood pressure meds, diabetic meds, or cholesteral medications. My poor old kness and hips have improved so much. I can get up and down with ease. Life is great. Tomorrow I am going to ride with my husband on our Harley to our New Years Day lunch we do every year. I haven't ridden in over a year, mostly because I didn't fit on the bike any longer. Now I do!! I have lost 116.6 pounds and have about 64 to go. I might just make it! Julia

Is it really December already??  Time continues to fly.  I did not lose well in November--only 7 pounds but I am happy for that.  I did not go to Curves as much as I should and am working on correcting that.  I now have bursitis, I think in my right upper arm which is too painful.  I may have to see my doctor and get an injection to see if that helps.  I have now lost a total of 110.5 pounds since surgery on 4-10-06 and feel so good.  I can do so many things now that I couldn't do 7 1/2 months ago.  Why just yesterday, I bent over and easily cut my toenails.  I can cross my legs, get up off the floor without help, and easily get up off a chair my self and immediatley walk.  Before I hated to even try to get up as it was embarrassing and difficult to do.  Then when I did get up it was painful to get going.
My skin is getting down right ugly!  Luckily it can be covered up.  I am already thinking ahead to the tummy tuck and maybe breast reduction.  I think the wrinkily legs can stay.  I am not young enough to care about the wrinkles in my behind and upper legs!!
I now have 70.5 pounds to lose to my goal weight.  It seems possible but the weight loss is also slowing down a bit so I know I need to work hard to get there.

November 1, 2006 update

Nov 01, 2006

I have lost well this month, losing a total of 13.5 pounds and reaching the CENTURY CLUB plus 2 pounds.  I am so thrilled with my weight loss.  Just this past month I feel things are really improving.  I can get up and down without any problems, I have stopped taking any Tylenol routinely and have not needed as needed for knee, hip, joint, muscle pain.  I am going to Curves and do enjoy it once I get there.  I have set a goal of 8 pounds to reach by Thanksgiving and it should be reachable.  Julia
