Hi Julie Tracy has been keeping me updated about your upcoming surgery. Kelly has lost 78 pounds since May. As of today 9/23/04, I have lost 52 pounds since my surgery July 16, 2004. I am feeling great, as far as my surgery goes, not my back though. I realize I was taking a risk doing this surgery at 64 years old. I have complete faith in Dr. Valin, and his staff. They are all so caring. I remember how many years Julie, you, Pat and Aunty Mary Nigro went from diet doctor to diet doctor trying to find the magic solution. I remember howe many nights I cried over my weight. We are so fortunate that the insurance companies have allowed coverage for this procedure so that we may lead a healthy life. I am fortunate that my daughters have supportive husbands that helped make this very important decision as having this surgery doable. I was fully supportive for my daughters because not only did I really know what they were feeling, but the opportunity to live a healthy life for their children down the road, but my grandchildren. I know there was skeptism from some of my "friends" like what is she up to now. I knew how important this was to me, and no one was going to talk me out of it. When I finally went to the seminars and met Dr. Valin and Debbie, I knew this was for me. I was the 8th person in our "family" that had this done. Michael's daughter Amber had this done a year or so ago. Julie, my prayers are with you for a safe surgery, and a speedy recovery. I hope you get the support you deserve from your family. I didn't need the encouragement because I was so hell bent on having it. I never got scared or wish I never had it done. Tracy has given us tons of clothes to share as we go down that wonderful path. Between Kelly and I, we are continually going into the next size smaller. I have the clothes in bins by the size. Please, please, let me know when you are ready for some. I will keep good track of you, my dear. Again, God watch over you. You are a beautiful person, outside and inside. With love Dottie

Congratulations on your surgery date! I have some Zen Wisdom for you - Nothing exists but momentarily...One thing flows into another...observe things as they are, let everything go as it goes. This is to put everything under control in its widest sense. --- May God keep you close to his side as you travel your new journey. You will have ups and downs. You can always turn to us, your AMOS family, we will give support, comfort and encouragement. You will find this will be the best thing you could ever have done for yourself as well as your family. I know that was true for me. Keep us posted when you reach the "other" side. I pray for a speedy and easy recovery for you. Don’t forget to update your profile at least monthly. We all like to see how we are doing!!! Make sure you take pictures. It’s great to see the new you emerge!!! Not to mention the look on YOUR face when you look at those pictures and compare them in a few months! It’ll be a BIG WOW!!! Please remember too, that this is a *tool* to use. Make sure you use it wisely. The first year it’s pretty easy, after that I’ve been hearing (I’m not speaking from experience as I’m not a year out yet) that it gets increasingly difficult. Choose the right foods and measurements wisely! Good luck and God Bless!!! RNY 10/31/03 down 120 pounds– I’M AT GOAL!!! Posted in Loving Memory of Paula – Momma Angel who passed away 6/10/04 (Note Momma did not pass away from anything related to WLS – she had not had it)
