It's been a while.....

Jun 24, 2009

OMG.. It's been forever since I've been on here.  I have made it down to 178 or so for the last 6 months or more. I fluctuate up and down 2-3 lbs.. but I haven't been any lower than 169 (which I was only down to for about a month).. but I am really happy at my current weight. Compared to 369, 178 is nothing.. and I am happier and healthier than I have ever been in my life!!! WAHOO. This surgery certainly changed my life.

I should update with a new photo.. I'll try and remember to do that soon.

For you newbies out there.. keep on keeping on.. It'll be worth it in the end.

Well.. I did it. I reached my personal goal. I was super excited. It took me about a full year to lose it all. I've lost 176 lbs. That's almost half my previous weight. It's that crazy.. and totally freaking awesome! I've had a lot of help and support. My wife has really been wonderful. She had the surgery as well and it helps going through this with so much support and understanding. Plus, I have a couple of fantastic friends that had the lap band surgery. And, my neighbor had the surgery too. Having that much support on your side really helps.

Anyhow. In celebration of hitting my goal I am going to try and run a 5K in May of this year. I was on the Men's forum and there was a poster out there that mentioned a couch to 5K in 2 month training program and I thought.. I wonder if I can run now. I've never run. In fact, I used to tell people all the time "I don't run" and now I am training to run.. LOL OK- maybe job.. but you never know, next year could be a run.

I uploaded a couple of pics too. One is of me wearing an old pair of pants and holding them up. One of the coolest things I share with people about the weight loss is that I have gone from a 54 waist to a 36 and a 5XL to a L shirt.  Still amazes me to say it out loud.. LOL

OK.. Thanks for reading. Hopefully it won't take me another couple of months to update. I am currently looking into having some skin removed. I am only barely looking in to it. I am barely a year out and I need to maintain for at least a year I think, maybe only 6 months.

Have a great day!

It has been a very long time since I have updated my blog. A lot has happened since my last post. I am very near "my" target goal. I have about 8 lbs to go. I am still in shock that I have made it this far. 166 lbs is a lot of weight for a person to lose. I look at my old pictures and I am in utter disbelief that I have progressed to this point. I can remember walking up a flight of stairs and being unable to breath.. now I am going to the gym and working out. Best part is.. I like it. I know.. I can't believe I just wrote that either. I am always excited when I make it to another level on the eliptical machine or I can work out for an additional 5 minutes. It's amazing.

I am now at a weight that I haven't been to since I was about 13. It's kind of funny. Sometimes when I go out and see people that haven't seen me in years they do not recognize me. People have walked right past me without knowing who I am and then the otter shock when they find out who I am. It's funny sometimes.

I am having a hard time losing the last few lbs. In the beginning it came off so fast, now I really have to work at it. And I have a lot of extra skin. It can be quite aggravating at times.. but the healthy aspect of this journey makes it all worth it.

OK.. that's enough of me right now.. ever have a question.. let me know.

7/16 Weight Goal Update

Jul 16, 2007

I had to update today simply because I am so excited. I have hit my very first goal weight loss. I hit the CENTURY mark. As of this morning I have lost a total of 103 since Jan of this year.
That's 78 lbs since surgery!

I am just elated to have lost 100 lbs. I didn't think it possible.

I'll update again when I have news to share.. and hopefully I'll update my picture soon as well.

June 28th Doctor's appointment Update

Jul 04, 2007

I went to the doctors on June 28th and I am happy to say that I am again losing weight. At the doctor's appointment I was down 87 lbs since January and and 62 lbs since surgery on March 20th. So, I am making progress and averaging about 20 lbs a month.

I still have a long way to go to reach my goal but at least I am close to the century club. I am eating well, exercising and taking my vitamins and calcium but I am sure having a hard time drinking 60+ ounces of water a day. I can't seem to stomache the flavored waters any more. They seem to sweet and make my stomach feel queazy.

I'll keep you all posted with my progress. My next doctor's appointment is not until September 20th.. which will be my 6 month anniversary.

I'll post again when I hit the 100 lb mark and after my next appointment.

Until then.. if anyone has any questions or would like to post me a message.. I'll reply as soon as I can.

Thanks for reading.

May 15, 2007

So.. I went to the doctors on May 10 for a checkup. I had only lost another 3 lbs in 3 weeks. I was furious. Does this actually happen to other people? I am not even 8 weeks out and I had a 3 week plateau. At this rate, even with surgery it's going to take 4 years to lose all my weight. UGH.. not exactly what I was hoping for. After discussing my frustration with my doctor he told me to be patient. So.. I am hoping that this month will bring me better results. So.. according to the doctors scale I am down 58 lbs since January and 33 lbs since surgery March 20th. That's really isn't that bad.. I mean, 33 lbs and it's almost 2 months post op. The nutritionist has released me to stage 5 diet which included starch, fruits and vegetables.. I need to eat my protein first and then try an add the fruit and veggies and starch.. but it's really hard still. I get too full from the protein. She tells me it will get easier.

Anyone else having issues like this? I've read from so many other people's blogs that the weight just comes right off during the first 6 months...

Hello everyone..
I met with the doctor last Thursday the 20th. Since my last post I have had some issues. I was getting A LOT of nausea and eventually vomited on Friday, the 13th (scary huh?). I spent the day at the hospital and after getting a CAT scan that determined nothing I had to have an Upper Endoscopy.  Turns out I had gotten an ulcer that was causing the opening to my stomach to close off. When they looked down my throat the opening was a pin needle size. They sent a tool down with a balloon attached and stretched the opening back up.
BAD NEWS.. I might have to have it done again.. up to 3 more times. UGH. I am hoping that once was enough.

Any how, at the doctors, I was down a few more lbs. I was at a 30lbs weight loss since surgery at that appointment.. and a total of 55lbs since Jan '07.

So.. that's where I'm at so far. I am getting really tired of just eating protein. I haven't moved to the next phase of the diet.. because of the ulcer and complications.. but I am sick of just eating protein.. UGH. I meet with the nutritionist on Thursday. Hopefully, by then.. I'll be able to eat a cracker or something.

I met with the doctor on Thursday. I am doing well. The pain is mostly gone. I lost 9 lbs this week. I was psyched. Wahoo! That's 15 lbs since surgery and 40 lbs since I started the program. I am really happy about it.
PLUS.. I get to eat. The nutritionist progressed me to stage 4 so I get to eat protein.. Meat, fish, eggs, beans..etc. It's so much better than Carnation Instant Breakfast.

I am going back to work on Monday so I will have been out of work almost 3 full weeks. I am going back for 5 hour days the first week and then full time. I have another follow up with the doctor in 2 weeks. I'll be sure to update again then.

I went to the doctors for a post surgery follow-up on Thursday and I was down 6lbs. I was really hoping for more but at least I had a loss.

I am still feeling pain but it's a lot less intense. I am grateful that I am making progress and I am really looking forward to getting back to a normal routine of work.

Mar 27, 2007

So, today is my one week anniversary.
I don't know if I lost any weight yet.
My surgery experience was good but painful.
I had never had surgery prior to my Laproscopic Roux N Y. I never knew how much my stomach affected my balance and overall body movement. Most of my pain has been from GAS. All the research I did prior to the surgery, which was vasts amounts over 4 years, I didn't think the gas pains mentioned would be as bad as they are. Thank God for Gas X.

My first follow up will be on Thursday, I'll post an update then.
