I am stumped on how to write an interesting “My Story” when my story really doesn’t differ too much from many others on this forum.  I have battled my weight as long as I can recollect and I have tried it all over the years from Elaine Powers to Susan Powter to Optifast to prescription uppers, several times at WW, numerous memberships to gyms, Atkins and so on and so on. I’ve had varied success with the different plans, have had a “fresh start” more times than I care to remember and so, after all of this, I have ended  up here.

I am one of the lucky ones from a support standpoint. I have a family which, while quirky at times, is fairly stable. I didn’t suffer abuse, no huge traumas growing up; it was a typical 2 parent, 2 kids, a cat and a dog suburban life.  The family has expanded to include a couple step-parents, many step siblings, nieces and nephews, but it’s all pretty easy going with minimal crisis. I have a strong relationship, so strong that my sweetie has offered to chip in and pay for a significant portion of this surgery since my insurance won’t cover it. He just wants me healthy so we can spend the rest of our lives active and together.  And, I have a job I enjoy, even though it requires me to travel 2 or 3 weeks each month. The travel is what I anticipate being my biggest challenge post-op.

I have contemplated this surgery off and on for a couple of years but it never felt right….now it does. After much consideration and research, I have decided to go to Mexico to have my RNY surgery.  I have been approved by Dr. Aceves and am now just working to coordinate a date in late February around some work projects I really want to tie up before I can’t travel for a month or so.  So, the journey begins.
