Just the beginning

Oct 06, 2010

   My surgery was October 1, 2010.  My husband and I flew down the day to Puerto Vallarta and relaxed in the hotel. I admit I did have a pretty emotional moment in the middle of the night. It was really the first time I was afraid. I made this decision and wasn't thinking of backing out of it, but I think I was really afriad of all the things that are going to change for my family. This doesn't just change my life, it changes theirs also. My husband held me in his arms and told me it was going to be OK. He's my rock.
   We checked out of the hotel in the morning and took a cab to the hospital. After the paperowrk was completed, they ran their tests and I was finally cleared for surgery. It was a bit of a wait, but when it came time - poof - git 'er done.  Everyone was amazed that i wasn't nervous. One doctor told me I was the first patient that wasn't. LOL I am determined to  make these changes to save my life and family.  The surgery went well. Do Joya was happy with my pre-surgery weight loss and that my liver had shrunk.  I woke up in recovery feeling like someone had gone a few rounds with my tummy.
   The first night  and next day was the worst. Everyone talks about the GAS... Oh, I can now totally understand.  I was so uncomfortable I actually asked for more pain meds.  I'm not a wimp, but I was hurting. The nurses were all very attentive to my needs and I didn't feel like I was imposing to ask for something.  I was released on Sunday back to the hotel. Hubby and I walked to Chili's so he could eat.  I sipped on some water and a little broth from chicken noodle soup.  You can really feel everything so down. Your stomach gurgles as soon as you put anything in it. Quite a strange feeling, but totally normal.  The we stopped at Starbucks and got a juice for me to sip on later - the hotel doesn't do room service on Sundays  ;{
   We went to breakfast the next morning and I sipped some tea and juice. Mmmm Cantaloupe juice rocks! I've never seen it in the States.  Gonna have to go look for it. We were lazy and ordered room service for lunch. it was nice to just sit in the room and enjoy ;}  For dinner we went to Outback so my honey could get his steak.  I sipped on water and a little watered down soup.  It was nice to walk for a while without it being overly hot.
  Tuesday morning we checked out and headed to the airport. It was a long day.  Mexico has an interesting security system for flying.  They hand inspect your checked baggage and let you thru the first security point with liquids.  Then they hand inspect your carry-ons and take the liquids away as you board the plane. Really a slow system. I wasn't impressed at all.  Bring me Hong Kong's super modern airport anyday!  The airline screwed up the wheelchair and made our connection in San Francisco shorter.  Poor hubby had to settle for a deli sandwich - but it WAS awesome.
  I did feel every bump and every bit of turbulance. BRING A PILLOW TO HUG. It REALLY helped. With my husbands help I did manage to sit as much as possible and save my energy.  By the time we got  home I was beat - physically. Our bed never looked so good. We peeled off our clothes and jumped in. I spent a while updating friends and checking email then fell asleep.  I still need help getting out of bed if I am laying down and from low chairs, but each day is getting better.
   I'm not regretting my decision, but I am sure in for some changes  ;}  Right now my goal is just to get in my fluids, rest and get back to my new life as soon as possible.  YEAH ME!!  EYE ON THE PRIZE !!
