Great Cardio day

Mar 29, 2011

My hubby is now a student so he is not home tonight. I decided to take the extra time I now have and do more cardio than I usually have time for.

I checked out a few exercise TV programs (on demand).
I started with a Zumba one since so many of my friends like that so much. The one I tried didn't really show how to do the steps it seemed like it was a class that was already in session that you were supposed to know what to do. I didn't last more than 2 minutes at that one before I was so lost I gave up. I prefer when the leader shows you the step or when the cameraperson at least focuses on the leader where you can see how to do the moves.

I then did a belly dance for fitness one for 10 minutes.  That was a lot of fun. Man am I uncoordinated. LOL.

Next I tried some of Billy Blank's dance, stopped that after about 5 minutes. Just not my thing.

Then I decided to put in my Spark Cardio blast. I did the warm up (even though I was pretty warm already) and then also did the 80 areobics. I didn't make it all the way through before my knees felt like they were going to buckle but I lasted 12 minutes.

SO:
Zumba 2 mins
Dance 5 mins
Belly dance 10 mins
SparkPeople Cardip warmup 3 mins
SparkPeople 80's Aerobics Cardio 11 mins

total cardio today 31 mins.

Feels pretty good to get that much. I can do a full hour+ of cardio in the pool but with my arthritis it has been hard to do that much on land before. But, the more I work out, the easier that gets.

Ran Again

Mar 28, 2011

I can not believe that I am able to run at all. I do not last long.

I lasted a little over3 minutes today, but that is up from 1 minute the first time I tried a few weeks ago.

For anyone who may be reading all of my blogs, I did get a good sports bra which helped a lot.

I have really bad arthritic knees so surprised that I can run... but I can.

It really feels good.

My knees hurt some afterwards but not too bad and the rest of my body hurts but it is a good hurt, a "wow I worked out" sort of pain.

Actually my legs sort of tingle.

So for today's cardio I danced some, I walked in place some, I did kick boxing some, I did walking lunges some and then ran in place some. Great cardio workout.

Still haven't done my strength training for the day, but wanted to have a little break between the cardio and that. I will get to it soon.

Daily report

Mar 18, 2011

Today started out great. I was off work so I started the day with ability to do some exercise. I really prefer to workout in the AM but most days that is impossible due to my work schedule.

I then went to a movie with my hubby. We saw that new one Limitless. What an intense movie. I will be thinking of that one for a while.

I then spent the rest of the night doing homework. Not my favorite way to spend a Friday night but that is the life of someone who works full-time and goes to school.

So, now with limited time left in the day I am sitting down to do my sparkpeople.

Overall a good day, exhausting but good.

Have a wonderful night everyone.

First time in 25+ years: jogged LOL

Mar 17, 2011

So I decided to to mix up my cardio a little yesterday and did some areobics, some dance moves and also tried to jog in place a little bit.

That was so funny.

First, I can't believe my arthritic knees let me do that at all, but the funniest part was learning that as a 44DDD I really need a sports bra. Tee hee hee. emoticon

Even though I have lost 130lbs, the last time I did anything that even resembled any sort of jogging I was in highschool and was about 100lbs lighter. I guess the girls are still way to big to be jogging without special gear.

Not gonna stop me. Will just equip better and then try again. Felt really good to be able to do it even if only for a few mins.

One Year Ago Today - My bandiversary

Mar 02, 2011

One year ago today I was "banded" or had lap band surgery.
Besides marrying my best friend, this was the best decision I have ever made.

Between the day I decided to get banded until today I have lost a total of 130 lbs so far (70 pre, 50 post).

I still have over a hundred to loose but I am on the path to wellness and so happy.

So, what has changed in a year:

I no longer am on high blood pressure medicine
I no longer am on high cholesterol medicine
I no longer am on a sleep apnea CPAP machine
I no longer have to hold the rails to walk upstairs
I no longer need to worry about if I can fit in other people's cars
I no longer need to move tables in restaurants because I can't fit
I no longer need to base my location preferences on seat sizes (like theaters)
I no longer need to sit to catch my breath while doing simple everyday tasks like walking around a mall.
I no longer am started at when out in public for being a freak
I no longer need to get pedicures because I couldn't reach my feet (now I get them because I love them)
I no longer need to pay $70-$100 for simple items of clothing like pants  I no longer need to shop in "fat lady" shops or online
I no longer need to stand in my dentist's waiting room because the chairs are too small for me.

I am sure there are other items I could add to this list but this is enough reason for why I LOVE my band and why today I celebrate it.

Why WLS in not the Easy way out

Feb 24, 2011

I just published a blog in Sparkpoeple called why WLS is not the easy way out.

I read a thread where people again were bashing WLS and so couldn't take it and had to blog.

You can read my blog here: http://www.tinyurl.com/WLSNotEasy

Past my 1/2 mark / Tracking food.

Feb 04, 2011

What a difference tracking food makes.  This is not rocket-science. I have been very successful in this in the past due to this practice.

I had gotten complacent and stopped tracking. After-all I had lost > 120lbs I know how much I am eating, I know my habits etc..

but, I was in a stall. The scale just wasn't budging at all. I started tracking my every bite and the scale is again my good friend.

In fact, I reached a large milestone yesterday. I now have less left to loose than what I have lost. I am past my halfway mark. In weighing in today I was thrilled to realize that I have lost 126 lbs and have 116 left. WOOHOO!

It is amazing how your decisions about food change when you track. I look at my calories and carbs as a budget and make sure to stay within. That is a no-brainer.

But, for those of us who are WLS patients, we have minimum goals too (water, protein).  I am using SparkPeople to track because I love the way you can set targets for things like Protein to make sure you get enough. It is forcing me to sometimes get another shake in if I haven't gotten enough cuz it shows balance remaining instead of just showing how much consumed.

For those of you who don't track your food; read this article for inspiration: http://www.dailyspark.com/blog

Weight Tracker Woes

Feb 03, 2011

I just entered my weight and it showed I had lost 21lbs so I went and looked and saw that my previous weight was wrong.

For any friends who are wondering how I lost so much practically overnight, I didn't.   I did loose some but not as much as it is showing.

If anyone knows how to fix a previously entered number, that would be great.

=============
Edit on 2/4/11:

I received help from tech support so if anyone else ever has this.   You can go back to the date that was wrong using the calendar that is at the top of where we enter the weight and then just correct the error.    I saw the dates on the graph but never even saw the dates there.  Duh!

What a GREAT day!

Jan 29, 2011

I started my day by attending a lap band support group. I love that group of ladies. I run a weight loss support group for all surgery types but that group being my surgery type holds a special place in my heart. It was a great day of sharing. We discussed staying motivated when close to goal. Keeping the momentum. Exercise habits and more. I can't stress enough the importance of support to keep the spark.

I left the group and went to my store where I buy sugar free Davinci syrups. I add them to my protein shakes. Really helps with mixing up the flavors.

I got home from all of that and had my friend and support group co-leader come over for a few hours. I invited her over to my home because I have a TON of clothes that people have donated to m from the group. We are going to do a clothing exchange at our next meeting next weekend but I had WAY more than I could ever haul myself. Plus she is one of the larger members of our little band and I knew some of them would just end up going to her home anyway so we bypassed the group meeting and she took them home. She will bring back to group the ones that others can wear and donate the ones too large for all of us now (what a feeling that is) to a womens shelter. I still have one couch full of clothes ranging from size 8's to 1x that I will bring to the meeting. I can not believe how many clothes there were. I think we hauled like 11 hefty bags of clothes to her truck. There are perhaps 7 or 8 more worth in my living room. I guess addictive personalities that caused us to be obese also causes us to buy too many clothes. This is just some of them.

I then spent the last few hours finishing up my schoolwork for the class I am currently in. Done, check that off. All I have left is the final next Friday but all assignments are complete. I LOVE that feeling.

I am a newbie quilter and only allow myself to quilt when I am in-between classes. My next class doesn't start until mid March so I now have some me time that I am REALLY looking forward to.

What a FANTASTIC day.

My hubby should be home soon and I am going to see if he wants to go out to eat to top off this great day. I am craving no-dough pizza from Amante (it is pizza toppings served on a plate so no or very little carbs)

Have a great night everyone.

So long "Bandster hell".

Dec 16, 2010

I am just writing a quick post because I can finally declare victory about my fills.

I was banded on 3/2/10 and for some reason I was one of those less than lucky people who was in "bandster hell" for quite a while.   I had no restriction at all until 2 fills ago.   I was able to eat entire pizzas for example if had chose to.   Most the time I chose not to which is why I have lost the 122 lbs I have lost.  It was all due to sheer will power.

Then, 2 fills ago I finally had good restriction during my period which gave me great hope and a vision of what my fill should feel like.

1 fill ago, I had great restriction for 2 weeks after the fill but then it all went away and I was able to eat anything and any quantity and was hungry all the time.   I was told my more experienced bandsters that I was most likely swollen from the fill and when that subsided is when I lost restriction.

But, it has been 2.5 weeks now since my last fill and everything is still wonderful!!!  I have what some would call "perfect restriction".  I define this by the fact that I actually get a sensation of being full after a small amount of food (I get a soft stop of a runny nose, often before I even finish 2 oz of food).  And I stay full feeling for hours with no physical desire to eat in between at all.

Plus, a bonus, so far, I am still fortunate enough to be able to enjoy some foods other bandsters can't.  For example low carb pasta.  I had no issues at all if I chewed it well enough.

So, today I am declaring victory and saying that I love my band.   I have been very successful on my own but really look forward to having the help this tool will provide.
