Answer to lap band message

You need to read on the DS board to really understand.  Also go to dsfacts.com.that is what I did. I just kind of lurked around and went back and read some old posts. The people on that board are amazing. IT does require you to take vitamins the rest of your life and it definitely a more involved surgery but I would never have another surgery that involves a pouch (lap band, vbg, rny) they are miserable way to live. The only reason I won't consider the sleeve is it doesn't have the long term advantages that the DS does and my biggest problem has always been sweets and the bad carbs. With the DS you really can't have sweets unless sugar free and eating white flour will give you gas issues. now some people can eat more variety than others but your right that the fat is mal absorbed. There are a lot of bad myths about this surgery. You can't take nisaids with the rny but you can with Ds. Pills are fine as long as they are not time released. If you go read the DS boards pay real good attention to the vets on there. That is how I decided. I paid close attention to the ones that where a year or more out. I liked the amount of weight loss and quality of life. I am 59 years old and I want the rest of my life to be healthy!
