I am a 48 year old divorced mother of one (daughter 22).  I raised my daughter since she was 5 years old and all my life, I have been doing for others and taking care of others.  I worked for a fortune 500 company as a workers' compensation claims manager for almost 23 years when I recently lost my job in October.  They decided to move our office to Federal Way. WA and I was not interested in leaving Oregon.  I decided it was time to take care of me.  I had lost weight so many times before only to gain it back again and again.

In December 2005 I lost my aunt Marlene unexpectedly from cancer.  She was diagnosed on December 16th and died on December 30th.  Her doctors had been advising her for quite some time to lose weight and had encouraged the gastric bypass surgery.  She didn't do it because she was afraid.  She had one child, a daughter, like I did and I watched what it did to her daughter.  It had quite an impact on me because I had always been seemingly healthy and I didn't want to go down the same path she did and watch my daughter go through the same thing my cousin had to go through.  I did my research and decided to go forward with the gastric bypass surgery.

I have been told my whole life what a beautiful woman I am and that I have such a pretty face.  I always took that to mean the face was pretty but the rest of me sucked.  Unfortunately I agreed.  I decided I want to live and I want to be healthy.  I want to see my daughter get married, have a family, play with the kids, enjoy good health and live a more active lifestyle.  I was tired of being tired and tired of watching from the sidelines.  I want to join in on the activity and the fun.

I am very excited for my new life.  I raised my daughter and now it's all about me.  I feel like this is the beginning of the second part of my life.  I am looking forward to losing weight, exercising, getting healthy, enjoying life and possibly even finding someone to share my life with.
