Always the girl with the beautiful face and smile but there is more to me than just that! As long as I can remember Ive always been larger than my friends but that never stopped me from doing anything. I was captain of my cheer team and section leader in my marching band, when I think back I know it was 10 years ago but I wonder why wasn't I smaller then Lord knows I was active enough.
It took me awhile to get to the point where I felt that surgery was the right choice for me. I am now the single parent of a 7 year old and I'm not only taking this journey for me but for him as well. My family medical history is full of high blood pressure and diabetes and I know it would be only a matter of time before it would happen to me. See I thought I was the exception I was always over weight but never had any health issues that is until I gave birth
My blood pressure has slowly risen over the years even at my last appointment my doctor told me next time she would consider putting me on medication. I already have sleep apnea I didn't want anything else!!!! I need to be here to RAISE my son so this is not a choice that I take lightly!!!!!!
My mother had her RNY at the Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti in 2007 so I have seen first hand from her experience what to do and what NOT to do!!! She wanted me to have it then but in my mind I wasn't ready and I still thought I could do it on my own!!
So here I am, Ive chosen the Henry Ford Hospital to start my journey. My orientation is May 19th 2009
I have my family and friends to support me and above all I have GOD who guides me in ALL that I do!!
