Finalized.....I hope

Well....I had my doctors appointment today to hopefully finalize what I needed for OHIP. All Im waiting on now is the letter from Dr. Schrams Office to send to my doctor in Seaforth to send to OHIP. So I hope that this is it.
Im hearing good things from everyone that it doesnt take too long to get approved after EVERYTHING is done. Please keep your fingers crossed!!!
I will let you know hopefully what happens.

Just another day!

Hello,
Well its just another day and I thought I would write down what I have been doing for the past couple of weeks.
Well way back in May I was playing ball and fell running to 1st (clutz I am) and was okay I thought at the time. Well the past 3 to 4 weeks havent been the greatest. My back has been extremely sore, so I gave in and went to the back crackers to see what was wrong. He told me it is my siatic nerve. OH GREAT....he said I should start to feel better but at least the 3rd appointment. On Thursday will be my 4th and not feeling much better so I dont know what to do. Having a 22 month old with a screwed up back sucks. So Im praying and hoping that it will finally get better after this one.
I absolutely hate this waiting game. I just would like everything to be done and have a date. Grrrr, but almost 3 weeks have went by fairly quickly. I have a friend going in to have GB done in a week. I hope everything goes very well for her and hope for a speedy recovery.

My Doctors Approval

Well I had my doctors appointment today and everything went very well. My doctors totally agrees with what needs to happen with me and my wonderful weight.
I got the OHIP forms filled out and they sent them by fax to the Ministry of Health. Im so relieved. I was very nervous about the doctors appoint just for the fact last time I asked a doctor about GB he said I wasnt overweight. So for my Doctor to say yes he will do anything to get this process going is just awesome.
Now the waiting begins. I dont know how long to expect for this process but I hope it wont be too long. Im not expecting anything for at least 5-6 weeks so I have my fingers crossed that everything will go smoothly.

The Consult

Hey everyone,
Well...........The consult went great!!!I was so impressed with everyone at Barixs. The nurses, and patient represenatives were awesome.
So our day with my boyfriend was just great. We were up early but went to do a bit of shopping before heading out to the Clinic. We got to the clinic aroudn 12:45pm and that was a good time to get there I believe. We didnt have to wait around that long I was in quickly to see the nurse so she could get all the medical information just back to a year ago. So that was good. She was wonderful very polite and professional. The first thing she had me do was to stand on the scale.......backwards!!!I was like oh my god....I cant even see how much I weigh. She had to take my height as well so I think that is why she had me backwards. Then jsut asked questions about me and my history! She then asked about my familys health, but my family doesnt compare with my sister and I cause Lori and I are adopted so jsut a few questions about her and that was done. So Lorne and I waited for about 30-34 minutes before going into the group consult. We get in there and ther I believe were around 11 of us and 3 were Americans and the rest were Canadians! WOW, I couldnt believe it. So we then met Dr. Jon Schram and he drew diagrams about the surgery and how it works and told us everything that we need to know!! HE told us the pros and cons of both LapBand and Gastric and how the both of them are different. The one thing that made me very relaxed was he told us the he has done over 2000+ surgeries and not had one death, he did have a leak but was able to fix it. He has been doing it for 8 years.
So in my one on one consult he told me that my BMI was 50 which I was a little shocked, but I needed to hear it. So Im just not sure how tall I am!!LOL. BUT the one thing he told me is that I dont have to have ANY PRE-TESTING done at all, well except what they need to do a couple weeks before surgery. All I have to do is see my doctor get him to fill out the forms for my OHIP approval and once that comes in then I will get my SURGERY DATE!!!!!!YEAH. Im so very glad about that. So my overall thougths about this is Im finally going to be gettign healthy and my doctor and the staff there are just awesome!
So today I will be callign my doctor and get a appointment set up and get things on the go!

Tomorrow is the Day

Well, tomorrow is the consult! Im feeling pretty good at the moment, trying to get everything together. Trying to think of anymore questions to ask the doctor. Im sure IM not goign to get any sleep tonight because I will be wondering if I have everything I need to take to the Clinic, well especially making sure I have all my documents for getting over the boarder! I hope everything goes smoothly at the boarder and they just let us go by without drilling us with questions.
One thing that I am proud of is that I have quit smoking for almost 4 weeks. Ive noticed a big change with running around the bases while playing ball. I still cant run fast, but I can run a bit better and not be really out of breath.
Well Im going to go and hopefully get things together.

The Start!

Well Gastric Bypass was my second choice in getting weightloss surgery done. I was looking in to having Lap Band, but then realized that it is not covered by OHIP and I cant afford 20 grand so then I started to read and gain knowlegde about Gastric Bypass. I have been reading about GB for about 6 months now and feel that it is my best way to get on with a new healthier life for me. I have a friend who is getting the surgery done in July and I am so proud of her. I have supported her since she told me about it.
So I was researching places to have GB done and came across the Barix Clinic in MI. and read I think almost everything on the website and sent all my information to them, This was on a Thursday night then I get a phone call from the Clinic and see if I would be interested in coming down for a consultation on the Monday(Long weekend in May). I was floored that they were so quick to call me and get me in. At that point I was in shock and told her that I wouldnt be able to come in that quick, so I would have to call her back and let her know about a date I would be able to come down. So my b/f and I talked and he never gave me a date. He was I think holding it off, but then he told me you make the date and I will get it off of work. So I DID IT........I made the date to go to the consultation, JUNE 27 @ 2pm I have to be in MI for my consult! I am very excited to meet with the surgeon and get to know them and more info on a one to one basis!
So I guess my next blog will be after the consultation to let you know how it went. I pray that everything will be good and we can start hopefully not a too long of road!
