6 Month Surgiversary!!

Mar 10, 2009

Today is the 6 month anniversary of my surgery! It is hard to believe that one year ago I was just beginning this journey. I looked back at my journal and I realized that yesterday marked the one year anniversary of the family friend that passed away. Her death really hit me hard and it was what started me on my journey to check into WLS. I did not realize until just now that my 6 month anniversary was tied to the day I found out she had passed.    I know without a doubt that I have made the best decision of my life. Having WLS has saved me in a way I never imagined it would. Prior to Mindy’s death I would have never have dreamed that I would have looked into having this surgery. Now I only wish I would have looked into it sooner! However, perhaps I would have ended up with a different type of surgery and not been as happy with my decision.      So here I sit at 232 lbs. Here is an update on my goals/scale victories:

1. I have lost 115 pounds (this includes the 15 pounds prior to surgery).

2. I have 32 pounds to go to my first major weight goal!

3. I have lost 33.1% of my body weight.

4. I am 10 pounds from my husband's weight.

5. To get to my ideal weight of 160, I have 72 pounds to loase.

6. I have lost 58% of my excess body weight.

7. I have 47 lbs to lose and my BMI will be under 30...   Measurements:   Hips: 49 (-17) Bust: 44 (-16) Waist: 44 (-14 ½)

Prayers needed

Feb 16, 2009

My husband Tim has been diagnosed with Testicular cancer.  He is having surgery today to remove the tissue/lump.  Once it is removed they will determine which type of cancer he has and then from there figure out the plan of treatment.

Any extra prayers/good thoughts you have would greatly be appreciated!!!

Keep looking at the Positive!

Feb 03, 2009

I posted this on the monthly update on my surgery board.  Thought I would put it here as well so I would have it to look back on someday.
****************************************************************************************************************************
I myself will be 5 months out on February 10.  I am thankful every day for my decision to have WLS and ever more thankful that it resulted in the VSG after a long journey to get there!

The first few months were rough for me because I had Thrush and nauseau and some regular vomiting, which I attribute to the Thrush.  After the Thrush was gone and I figured out what would work and what wouldnt work food wise, things seriously improved for me!

As of this morning, I am down 102 pounds from my highest weight pre-surgery.  I lost 15 of those pounds during my 2 week pre-op diet.  Here is an overview of how I have done each month:

2 week pre-op diet: -15
09/10/08-10/01/8: -29
October: -21
November: -15
December: -11
January: -10
February (so far): -1

My ultimate goal is to be at 160, but my first major goal is 200 and I have 45 pounds to go!  I am over 2/3's of the way there!  I would be happy to be at 180 by 1 year out!

Woohoo!!!! Major Milestone reached!

Jan 22, 2009

As of this morning I am below 250!!!!! And only 2 lbs away from 100 lbs loss.

I honestly do not remember the last time I was below 250. I didnt really ever weigh myself growing up (we didnt own a scale) and I didnt in college either. I never paid attention to my actual weight until I was trying to get pregnant. And I started that journey our around 280-300...

I was thinking back to what size clothes I wore in my senior picture in HS and I was in an 18...well right now I am buying size 20 in department stores. I think sizing may have changed a bit since then, but dang I am close!!

I am just so happy with my decision to have WLS!!!

Very difficult day yesterday

Jan 19, 2009

Yesterday morning I had to take one of my dogs in to put her to sleep.  I was doing a good job of "holding it in" until I told the vet, "I want to have her put to sleep".  I know she really is in a better place and she is no longer suffering!!

Afterwards though, I went on a downward spiral.  Every piece of food I came near, I put in my mouth!  UGH!!!!!   It still wasnt near what I would have done prior to surgery, but it was too damn much!!

NSV and 4 months out!!

Jan 08, 2009

So this morning I was desperate for black dress pants.  The first pair I grabbed from my closet was a size 26.  And although they still "fit", I would have been pulling them up all day long.  I vaguely remembered that I bought some pants at a consignment store about 6 weeks ago that I couldnt zip up, but I figured for the price, they would fit eventually.  I found them in my closet this morning and yippee!!!! they fit!!!!  They are a 22WP dress pant!

4 months ago I was wearing a 30/32 in stretchy pants.  If they had a regular waist band on them and they werent the cotton/stretchy pants, I was pretty uncomfortable in them and normally avoided them!  I know I still have a ways to go before I am at a truly healthy BMI/weight, but when I think of how far I have come so far, I am estatic!!!!

17 Weeks Out

Jan 06, 2009

My first journal entry for 2009!!  What a year it is going to be!  I am thankful every day for the decision that I made last March to take this journey.  I have learned so much about myself in the past 9 months and I can only imagine what else I am going to learn.

We had a "Hold It for the Holidays" contest at work.  Basically we paid $5 and weighed in the week before Thanksgiving.  then we weighed out this week.  Everyone who maintained their weight within 1 pound or lost weight, gets to split the total pot.  You only end up getting about $6-$7, but hey it is a good way to keep yourself in check.  Per their scale, on November 19, I was at 278.4 and today I was at 257.4 for a total loss in 7 weeks of 21 lbs!!!

1. I have lost 93 pounds (this includes the 15 pounds I lost prior to surgery).
2. I have 54 pounds to go to my first major weight goal!
3. I have lost 26.8% of my body weight.
4. I am 7 pounds from my first 100 pounds lost.
5. I am 32 pounds from my husband’s weight.
6. To get to my ideal weight of 160, I have less than 100 pounds to go! 94 to be exact.
8. I am 1.1 points away from a BMI under 40! I have 7 pounds to go to get there!
