Finally
Jan 22, 2007
Finally I have everything I need to have my application submitted to my insurance. I found out 3 weeks ago I needed my ekg and bloodwork sent to the bariatric center so that they could send im my application. So I got the fax number to the bariatric center and then called my PCP. This was on a Friday, January 6th. The nurses at my PCP said they would fax the info. So comes Monday, I call my PCP's office and they said it's been sent. Tuesday comes and Deb at the bariatric center calls me and says she did not receive anything. So i call my PCP and ask them to fax the info again. So I hear nothing from noone for the next 2 days so I think things are going okay. Come friday, Deb calls me and says she has not received anything yet. By this time, I am pretty pissed because my PCP's office is assuring me they are faxing the info. So now Deb gives me her personal fax number, I call my PCP, again to have the, fax the information, again. So I hope things go well. Monday rolls around again, and Deb call's me first thing and says I do not have the right amount of bloodwork done and that I need to get more drawn. She tells me she is going to send me a script through the mail. I thought to myself, it would be faster if I just went to pick it up, but oh well. Tuesday comes and I receive the script. I call my PCP's office to set up an appointment but can not get scheduled til Friday. Friday comes around, I go and get blood drawn and I am so happy. But, today(yesterday i guess) comes and I get a call saying I still need more blood drawn because bloodwork guy at my PCP didn't do enough tubes of blood or whatever. So I go back today, and get another tube done. I think I'm finally done. The bloodwork guy tells me that my PCP and the bariatic center has all the bloodwork from the previous tubes. By Tuesday afternoon they should have the results for the vial of blood taken Friday. Hopefully I will hear from Deb by this weekend and she will tell me that my application has been submitted. *crosses fingers* I hope all goes well and I hope insurance doesn't take long to approve it. I'm meeting with Margurite again this Thursday. Hopefully I will have some good news. *crosses fingers again* Wish me luck.
I've been approved by my surgeon!

Today is Thursday the 21st of December and I have been apporved for surgery by Dr. Kim. I am so happy! Only 1 problem, still waiting on Dr. Hayes' psych eval report to come in before Nurse Deborah can submit my information to my insurance. It's been about 2 weeks, and Dr. Hayes says it takes about 2-3 weeks to get written up, so I'm hoping that the bariatric center gets it sooner than later.
To everyone who has accepted my friends requests, I thank you for that. This journey seems a difficult one, and some of you have been through it already. I'm just glad there are people like you out there who have walked the path that I am going to walk and have made it through the bad and the good. I've read your posts and they are very inspiring. I thank you again for your random thoughts and inspirations.
My WLS journey so far...

What's up? Nothing much here. So I'm done with my psych eval. Dr. Hayes says I have some anger issues ( lol ) and I'm under a decent amount of stress. All in all, I'm not crazy. So that's a good thing. I've been working out longer and harder recently; trying to drop some more ponuds before I meet with Dr. Kim again. The thing I'm wondering is how come the nutritionists didn't want me to lose a certain amount of weight. I'm not sure but I've read that they want you to lose some pounds before anything. Anyways, I'm taking it upon myself to lose the pounds. exactly 1 week until I meet with Dr. Kim again. Wish me luck. * crosses fingers *

Today I met with Dr. Hayes for my psych eval. I guess there 3 different sessions required for the eval to be complete; so I guess today was the 1st part. We just talked about basic stuff, family, how I found out about weight loss surgery, failed attempts and some other thing. Dr. Hayes is a pretty cool guy. I'd recommend his to anyone looking for a good psych eval doctor.
I also had bloodwork redone and had an EKG done today. Results next month.
My next appointment is on December 21, 2006, 4 days before Christmas. I am meeting with Dr. Kim and not one of his nurses. I hope after going through my information and everything, Dr. Kim gives me an early Christmas gift. *crosses fingers*

Had my first consultatin with Dr. Kim. Met with his nurse, I forgot her name, I think it was Mary, first. Then waited with 2 other people. Then Dr. Kim arrived and had like a little group session before speaking to each of us individually. My first impression is that he's very knowledgable and straight to the point. He introduced himself, explained the various types of bariatric surgery performed, explained the risks factors, death tolls ( 3 in 900+ ) and process of obtaining approval.
Well, as of right now, Dr. Kim said all I need to do is get a psych evaluation and get the results of my sleep apnea test to them and I'm pretty much all set. When he said that, I should have asked him specifically what he meant, but I guess I was too excited to hear that. But I'm sure it means exactly what it means. After talking to Dr. Kim i met with the nutrionist and she encouraged to start changing eating habits. I'm hoping this transition will be easy, even though it'll take alot of practice.
So right now I'm waiting for my pcp to write my insurance a referral for the psych eval because I guess they won't pay for it unless its referred. The sleep center is being lame also. It's been almost a month and my pcp hasn't heard anything about my results. How lame.

Submitted my application for bariatric surgery. I'd like to thank Ed Vera FNP and his staff @ Compassionate Family Medicine for helping me with the application.
