Update

Jul 07, 2008

I'm now 189 lbs (86kgs) I've lost a lot of weight and gained a lot of health, its quite amazing the amount of minor ailments that have gotten better, tinea, varicose veins, headaches, cramps, sore joints, sleep patterns, ability to sleep all night without needing to go to the toilet 3 times, less indigestion etc etc, wonderful.

Floppy skin is not so great, but a small price to pay.

I eat anything I want whenever I want...

5 weeks out...

Oct 17, 2007

Well I just thought I'd share my progress with you all.

I had the VSG done on Sep 11, so 5 weeks later and here I am, 43 lbs lighter.

I have a lot of "feeling not right" after I eat, every meal is a bit of a struggle to get food down. Then I spend the next 30 minutes staring into space blankly whilst waiting for my stomach to settle.

I wasnt sure what the frothies were prior to surgery, now I'm well aquainted! It does seem to coincide with Chicken a lot though!

I am getting excercise in most days, running , riding or tennis, a few weights here and there. My energy levels are a bit all over the shop still.

I can eat most things just very small amounts. I had 2 glasses of wine last night that went down ok, but slowly.

I reckon I'm eating 10% of what I used to eat, but mixing it up to get good quality food in.

I had a chocoalte biscuit yesterday, ate it slowly and it was funny because prior to surgery I would have eaten the whole pack, now 1 and I'm full.

So all up I'm pretty happy, Mrs Kevvy is not thrilled, I am the main cook at home and I really dont care any more too much about my meals, doesnt excite me like it used to.

But post op life is good, clothes are falling off me , I spend less time on the pooper, sleep all night without getting up for wees several times.

Yeah it's cool!

Where does the time go?

1 month already!!

I have lost a reasonable amount of weight, but the last week I am stuck. Which is bugging me.

I am running 20 mins a day now. 5/7 days.

Eating pretty much anything, after chewing it to death, but oh so small quantities.

I used to have poached egss for dinner, 3 eggs on 3 bits of toast, last night I had 1 poached egg on toast and couldnt finish the last bite.

So far, so good!

My VSG experience.

Well I finally got it done. I've been only looking into this WLS option for 6 weeks and there you go I have a banana! I originally was after a Lap Band, but I read enough here and elsewhere, aplus also got the feeling from my surgeon that VSG is the way that WLS is heading so I signed up. I had a date in early August, so it was just a matter of researching and waiting... and waiting.. waiting...

Seriously the wait seems to take forever, you see an opportunity to raly get on with your life and then you just have to sit back and wait.

Anyhooo...

I had my 'last dinner' on Monday 10 Sep, some Chinese food, and an orange to round out the day. I was due at hospital at 6:30am on Tuesday and fasting from midnight. (Funny enough I was up to 2am, sitting on the toilet with a bit of diohearra, nerves?)

Got to the hospital with my beautiful wife and eventually got checked into a room, where I was given the obigligatory gown, but I was allowed to keep my own underpants on!

Once I got changed the Nurse came in and shaved my belly, not that I'm very hairy mind you, but you know......

Then I was measured up for some compression stockings to asssist with clotting, which I duly put on.

Then I was whisked into the OR. It was huge, a real space age OR with spectacular machines and lights , I half expected/hoped there would be an anal probe, but I dont...think there was?

The surgeon told me I had been good and no last minute weight gain, or he would not have opereated. The anatheosil.... you know.....the put you to sleep guy, gave me a needle and said I would soon be in recovery , I smiled and closed my eyes...........

When I awakoe in recovery I was dazed, and had fairly bad apin in my side, the Nurses kept asking about pain levels , I probably built it up a bit and got plently of pain relief, I was actually too tired to notice all of the pain so I was ok. I then dozed on and off and my wife came to see me back in my room, I was a bit woozy and didnt make a lot of sense to her, but I couldnt move much and I was expereicning a fair bit of pain, so I became the human pin cushion, then went back to sleep for an hour.

When I awoke I felt a fair bit better, there was a tray of liquids next to me,so I thought I would try the soup, BAD MOVE, I was dry heaving before it hit my lips.

I then managed to force feen some jelly and apple juice, which wasnt too bad apart from the feeling that I was swallowing a stone each sip.

It was only a couple of hours later it got real bad, I was in a shared room at this time and my 'neighbour' had dinner bought in for him and his wife, the smell of their dinner sent me right over the edge I was throwing up and constantly heaving, which is more painful thanI can describe with a new stomach, on top of that the guys snoring had kept me awake most of the night so I made a fairly urgent request to get a single room.

The surgoen had initially indicated I would go home on the Thursday , but given my vomiting fit, I was kept on the IV drip and told I would be there an extra day untill I could drink more water. The Surgeon also told me )on the Friday morning!!) that I shoudl mainly concentrate on the water and dont worry about the jelly/ juice or food supplement.

So water I pushed and pushed and about midday on Friday they said I could go. Getting unclipped from the machines was a huge burden released, I had 100ml of Saline every hour coming through, so I was up to the toilet dragging an IV drip and a 'lolly jar' (Drain from my stomach leading to a jama jar sized conatiner, full of bright red liquid.. not quite blood, but something like it!

The drainage tube coming out was one of the worse things, that was the only place there were any stiched the rest is jsut all taped together. It ran about 5 inches deep into my body.....

I had a rough ride home, felt every bump, but felt better to be home.

Now I'm working on the drinking and I' had around 2.5 litres yesterday, whiuch was pretty good.

Water, Tea, Sustagen has been my mixture so  far. The funny thing is I weighed myself quickly and I have only lost 1 kg, but my stomach is still pretty blaoted, so I'll start worrying about weight loss next week.

My first nights sleep at home last night went well, plenty of pain killers, and about 7 hours sleep, 4 toilet breaks though!

The last Supper.

Well... thats what it felt like, I just cut an Orange into 4 quarters and ate it, it was lovely. Now I'm off to bed, in 8 hours I get up and straight to hospital for another piece of fruit... a banana. Wish me well. Oh and make room for me on that Ol' losers bench! Bye 'yall! I'll be back real soon... hopefuly!

24 little hours

Sep 09, 2007

In under 24 hours I will be a banana owner.

Feels a bit freaky with it so close now.

But I'm excited, a little bit nervous, but ok.

I have been eating too much, but strangely getting full quickly in the past couple of days. I think my stomach knows it's days are numbered, so now it's trying to be good!

Well too late sucker, like a cheating wife I have trusted you before and youve let me down! So off with your head, or at least 2/3rds of you!

I'm ready...................

Out with the new, in with the old, or something similar!

Sep 02, 2007

Well I've just spent the past few days sorting out my clothes, I have 3 stages.
NOW- anything that fits me now @ 138kgs.

115 kg - Once I hit 115 kg clothes that will fit.

110 kg - Once I hit 110kg clothes that will fit.

And for the first time ever I will THROW out clothes that are too big once I hit the first bracket!

Everytime I've gone on a "succesful" diet I pack my 'Fat' clothes away.... of course 12 months later I'm looking for my fat clothes again.......

Not this time baby, staright in the charity bin with these suckers....

feels good.

I'm pumped!

8 days to go!!
