15 weeks and 75 lbs gone!

Sep 12, 2015

I can't get over the difference.  I have had a lot of NSV'S but the most precious one of all was snuggling with my 5 years old granddaughter on the couch...me on my side and her on her back in my arms.  I have never been able to snuggle anyone on the couch....it took me waking up to her snoozing away to realize what happened and I cried.  Best NSV yet!

12 weeks NSV''s

Aug 23, 2015

Today after a complicated surgery recovery I get the go ahead to go back to work!

I have a lot to be grateful for...although my health tracker is wrong and I can't change it...I started this journey at 337 pounds and am today 272 pounds.  That alone for me is a miracle.

My NSV's are wonderful!

Wear and tie shoes no prob

Cross my legs

Walk and feel great

Do my own pedi

Shave without any problems

Get down on the floor and move around and get back up! Mostly the getting up lol

Clothes that are 4 times smaller...shoes 1 size smaller

Comfortably drive my vehicle. ..not squished into the stearing wheel

I don't snore like a semi ....so my family tells me lol

Sit in any chair or booth without worrying if I will fit...amazing!

Make good food choices and no self hate for those choices for 3 months!!!

What a start to this amazing journey. Thanks to everyone who has been supportive and answered all my questions.  It has been invaluable.

6 week appointment

Jul 09, 2015

I met with the nurse, doctor and dietitian today.   I was weighed...down to 293  that's down another 7 lbs. This past 3 weeks was slow and I stalled for 2 weeks at 295.   I had read several times that this is normal.  The doctor wants to see me more frequently due to the hemorrhage  at surgery.  He advised all was well and we discussed the problems eating and vomiting.  He advised what I had already learned and not to worry about eating bread, rice or potatoes as I am not able to tolerate them.   I discussed the same issue with Rhinnette. She advised the same.  The doctor advised I have a later recovery due to the hemorrhage and complications. I am continue doing what I have been told and things should come along in time.  Set to see him in 6 weeks again.

June 16 - 3 week appoinmtent

Jun 20, 2015

I had my 3 week appointment with the clinic.  I saw Monique and she weighed me and I was 300 lbs.  Down 37 lbs in 5 weeks.  She asked a lot of question such as : hair loss, depression, eating and water intake.  Then I went to see the dietitian, it was not the usual one and it wasn't particularly helpful as they new nothing about an RNY. She kept referring to the sleeve and had no real knowledge of the surgery.I asked several questions and she needed to call and ask the dietitian I usually see.  The dietitian  advised my blood work came back extremely low in Vitamin D and required a prescription. One pill per week (50,000 iu) for 12 weeks.  She also recommended a multivitamin, calcium with vitamin D, Iron because of low Iron, and B12.

Update: June 20/15   I have taken the vitamins and am eating much better and getting my water in.  I am now 298 lbs and feel much better now. No looking back at the 300's!

Almost 3 weeks out

Jun 14, 2015

Well  my surgery was May 26th. It took a bit longer than expected. What was supposed to be a 2 or 3 day stay turned into a 7 day stay because of a small internal bleed and difficulty breathing.  On my second day they realized I was allergic to the dilaudid  and then tried morphine but it made my heart race.  As any pain meds were making me sick I refused them for 4 and a half days.  It was easier to handle the pain than to be vomiting too. The surgery was on Tuesday and by Thursday night I started eating. I never felt hungry and never felt like eating but did try a bite or 2 of anything they brought.  The broth was heaven after 18 days of a liquid diet prior to surgery. I left the following Monday near supper and my daughter took me home.  I have gone through the clear fluids and the pureeds.  I still eat oatmeal or cream of wheat for breakfast as I love it and occasionally a scrambled egg .  Snacks consist of greek yogurt, apple sauce...lunches are soup of almost any kind, fish and veg or turkey and veg, or occasionally a scrambled egg.  Suppers are generally like the dinners with the exception that I can not tolerate rice yet.  A tablespoon of mashed potatoes with veg and fish are generally it .  No capacity more than a 1/2 c per meal yet so I try to get in a good balance in.  I have been able to keep my fluids up at the 6-7 cup level so far.  I also add beneprotein to all the foods I can so the protein level up there.  I walk the driveway each day and feeling better everyday. But still do not have a lot of strength. On the diet they gave me I was supposed to be eating a half slice of bread...I cant tolerate that at all if ever. Tried it twice and felt sick for the morning. I dont care if I ever eat it again. I know I was 337 at my highest weight, 331 on my start of the liquid diet and lost 12 pounds down to 319 and they didnt weight me at the end of the liquid diet diet prior to surgery but the day I came home a week after surgery I weighed 318.  As of today I weigh 301.  I go Tuesday to get my staples taken out and see what the next phase is. Looking forward to stronger days!

Preop Diet

May 17, 2015

So after being scared of the surgery being cancelled I went right out to Costco and got a supply of premium protein and started on it the next morning.  That was Friday May 8th.  I drank 5 shakes a day at 800 cal per day.  Then on Tuesday the 12th I started the Slim Time preop diet as planned.  It is May 18th and I am currently down 8 pounds in this past 10 days.  It has been rough but I havent cheated once.   I am not hungry but sometimes my head thinks I should eat and thats when I just think of losing the surgery and I stay focused.  I wish there was a magic number to lose to know if you are doing well enough though.  I am so scared of the Tuesday weigh in on the 26th.

Preop Appointment May 7th/15

May 17, 2015

I went over to the George Dumont Hospital and did all my preop tests, an ECG, blood work, and a chest xray.  Then I met Rhinette for the first time.  The dietitian.  She talked about the 2 week liquid diet and all the importance of shrinking the liver.  Then she went over the post surgery diet.  It was all very informative and well explained.  I then went and met with the bariatric nurse Monique and gave her all my med list and meds.  She gave me a printout of when I could take each up to surgery.  No arthritic meds from the 16th on.  Ouch.  Then she weighed me and I was up 16 pounds from 8 months ago at my signing day.  She told me she thought they would have to cancell the surgery and went to speak to Rhinette. I almost died right on the spot.  She came back and told me they would put me through to the first week of the liquid preop diet.  But that I had to do well on that one week check in on the 26th or they would cancel the surgery.  I was shaken and explained mother nature was due any day and I would work very hard on the diet.  So home I went and onto the diet.
