Manuel E. Castro-Arreola

"I can not say enough good things about Dr. Castro. My mom, my sister, and I have all had RNY gastric bypass. My mom had her surgery through a different, larger practice in the Dallas area. I thought it was a good practice, she seemed to be doing okay. Then my sister had her surgery through Dr. Castro and that is when my mom and I both decided I should have my surgery though him as well. He is listed as New Beginnings Surgical Associates and is located at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas. rnrn*What was your first impression of him?rnHe seemed kind and intelligent. I was honestly afraid to believe all of the wonderful things he was telling me were possible as a result of this surgery. I was afraid to get my hopes up, but so far, everything he told me is true!rnrn*How did your impression change over time?rnIt really didn't change. He is kind and intelligent. He is also highly skilled and highly professional. He is so well informed, and he carefully explains everything so that I can understand exactly what is going on. He is also, by far, the most caring physician I have ever met. He made me feel very comfortable and I know he truly cares for his patients. He has even personally returned phone calls to answer my post-surgical questions.rnrn*How would you describe his office staff?rnThis is the first time I can say that I actually really like going to a doctor's office. You feel like part of a family there. Two of the members of his staff have had gastric bypass surgery, so it is also a good place to ask questions of people who have previously experienced what you are going through.rnrn*How much does he emphasize aftercare?rnThe program definitely emphasizes aftercare. There is a nutritionist you meet with, as well as an exercise therapist. There are also monthly support group meetings where questions and other issues are addressed.rnrn*How did he adress the risks of surgery? rnThe risks of surgery were all fully explained. They also explained the pro's and con's of each type of procedure.rnrnHow would you rate him overall?rnI would recommend him to anyone. In fact I plan to tell anyone who wants to have this procedure that they should definitely try to make him their doctor.rnrnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?rnBoth are great. After my gastric bypass surgery I had only 6 very small incisions. I recovered quickly and was able to leave the hospital the next day. As I previously stated, his bedside manner is wonderful. I know this website says that 100% positive reviews are suspect but I honestly can not think of one bad thing to say about my doctor.rnrnrnrn"
