My Story

Mar 25, 2007

My story probably isn't any different than a lot of you.  I have always been a little heavy and then in my mid 20s I started gaining and kept gaining.  I have tried every "diet" out there except the cabbage soup diet. YUCK!  I even did two rounds of a Medically Supervised Diet at a local hospital.  Through most of these diets I would lose weight but always gain it back.

I am very successful in my professional life, have wonderful friends/family and an incredible husband.  If I can succeed at so many things why can't I conquer my weight challenges?

In my late 30s my husband and I went through three years of infertility treatments.  It was the most difficult time for me to finally decide you want a baby and then you can't make it happen.  Part of my problem was age but part was weight.  Regardless, we decided that it just wasn't going to happen and I would focus on spoiling my wonderful neices and nephews.

Then the BIG 40 and all of the sudden it seems like my health is affecting me more.  High blood pressure, achy joints, etc.  After continuing to "diet" I just kept gaining.  I turn 45 later this year and I finally decided I must take this drastic measure so I can finally change the way I eat and stop "dieting".  I truly look at this surgery as a "tool" that I need and want.

After speaking to a lot of people and doing research I feel this is the right move for me.

My father and sister are not terribly in support but they do not know the personal issues I deal with every day.  This is not a whim or something that I haven't thought about for a very long time.  It is just not something you discuss a lot.  To me it is embarrasing that I can't conquer this life challenge.

I have decided that I must do this for me. My husband and close circle of friends have been so supportive.

My surgery was 3/21/07 so I am just 5 days post op.  I am so looking forward to the years to come.
