12/06/2007 - Birthday Reflections

Dec 05, 2007

So my birthday was a few days ago on December 2nd.  I'm now 37 years old.  Sigh.  It's OK though.  I'm going to claim 29 and holding maybe.  LOL.

One good thing is I reached goal on my birthday.  I've had that lower goal in mind, but officially I set 135 as my goal and on the morning of the 2nd I weighed in at 134.5.  I don't even know how I feel about that at all.  Weird mostly.  So I guess now I'm saying 130 will be my new goal and we'll see if I meet that one.

My friend showed me a picture of us from a couple of years ago.  She said it was weird for her too, because she doesn't really remember me being that big.  It was strange to look at.  I don't remember ever seeing myself as that big either, but there it was in print.  I didn't even look like the same person I am now.  Very strange.

So now none of my clothes fit.  Not even the new ones I've bought.  I'm still completely broke, so no way to go buy any new ones.  Might hit the goodwill again soon.

A coworker of mine had surgery on Tuesday at my same surgeon's office and hospital.  Different surgeon though.  I went to see him that afternoon.  It was strange being up in the bariatric floor again too.  I spoke with the nurse a bit.  We also had the annual St. Vincent's holiday party, which I attended that same day with my daughter.  It was a nice way to reflect on the blessings of the past year.  Amazing how far I feel like I've come in not quite, but almost 7 months.

I'll try to do some pictures next week when I get to that 7 month anniversary date.  Will be interesting.

11/13/2007 - Six months (and a couple of days)

Nov 13, 2007

Holy cow.  I can't believe I'm finally below 140.  This morning the official weigh-in was 138 pounds.  At my recent six month appointment, the dietitian told me she didn't think I needed to lose any more weight, and that I should start eating to maintain.  I'm not ready to stop yet.  At that point I was still in the 140s and I wanted to at least get to the 130s first.  I spoke with the Nurse Practitioner and she said I could go to the low 130's but anything less than that would be too low for my height.  My goal has been 135, but I've always thought I'd really like to go into the 120s, but I just haven't been sure what I would look like at that weight or if I would be able to get that low or maintain that low of a weight.  I'm thinking I may adjust my goal to 130, and then just see if/when I reach that goal.  I need to do better about exercising though, and I really need to start doing some weight training.  I have enjoyed the running, although it makes my right knee hurt.  I have one more trail run I'm going to try to do this weekend, if I can scrounge up the entrance fee.  But I need to join the gym.  The problem with that is mainly money too.  I hate having such a dang tight budget.  We have one and a half car payments left and things will be a little easier after that.

I guess not a whole lot else to report re: weight loss issues.  Still plugging away and trying to lose somewhere between 3 to 8 more pounds, and then we'll have to see after that.  It's so weird being this close to goal.  I never thought I'd get here.

10/14/07 - 5 months and a few days - 144 lbs!!

Oct 14, 2007

Hi everyone!  Long time no blog.  I'm pretty excited this morning.  I'm just a few days past 5 months, and this morning I weighed in at 144lbs, which puts me officially a "normal" weight & no longer overweight.  This was really my bare minimum goal.  I want to still get a bit lower so that if I have that rebound and level off thing, I will still be a normal weight.  I weigh just a couple pounds less than I did before I got pregnant for the first time.  this is probably the lowest I've weighed in my adult life.  Unbelievable.  This surgery is such a miracle it seems.  I don't think I'd ever have been able to do this on my own.  I feel so blessed.  Yesterday DD and I ran a 5K and didn't do too badly, really.  OK, I was last place, but I still got third in my age category, and I could've gone faster but I didn't want to leave DD behind, as she's only seven.  Next time I'm not waiting on her though!  LOL.  Feeling really good.  Now to get to my current goal of 135... only 9 more pounds to go.  Then we'll maybe see about lowering the goal.

9/12/07 - 4 months out (and one day) - 155 lbs - down 63

Sep 12, 2007

I wanted to post a quick blog entry for being out 4 months and a day.  Yesterday at four months, I weighed in at 155 lbs, so that is down 63 pounds from the date of my consultation.  I'm down exactly 80 lbs from my highest weight ever.  I need to drop another 10 lbs to be at a healthy BMI instead of overweight, and another 20 lbs to get to my current goal.  Actually this morning, I weighed 154, so I'm down a bit even from yesterday.  Yay!  Haven't done pictures yet, and I'm not doing them tonight because I just went running with Reilly, my 7 year old, so I'm all icky and sweaty. LOL.  Ran my 5K on this past Saturday.  I'm doing the 5K Walk from Obesity on 9/29 and then Reilly and I are doing another 5K trail run in October.  Getting all athletic! :0)  Nothing much else to report, so will go.  Will post new pictures maybe tomorrow, if I don't forget.  K

9/9/07 - Blogging

Sep 08, 2007

Haven't posted any blog entries in forever!  This seems like a decent time to do so.  I'm down about 63 pounds today and met a new goal of weighing 155.  I need to lose 10 more pounds to get to a healthy BMI instead of overweight, and 20 more pounds to get to the goal I currently have decided upon of 135.  Yesterday I did my second ever 5K.  I had the goals of 1) Run some of it, instead of walking the whole thing 2) beat my last time 3) try really hard not to be last to finish and 4) don't fall down in the mud (it was a trail run and pretty muddy).  I am happy to say I met all of those goals!  I believe my finishing time was about 51 minutes, so beat my last time of about 59.  I was only 3rd or 4th from last.  didn't fall down at all, and did run quite a bit of the course.  No medals this time though - too many women in my age group. LOL.  Now I want to get to where I can run the whole 5K eventually.  Well, I need to go to work, so I'll close this entry and try not to go so long between them from now on.  K

8/14/07 - Yet another recipe...

Aug 14, 2007

Ingredients:

1 small carton of egg beaters
1 cup low fat monteray jack cheese
4 oz of ham diced
2 oz onion chopped
2 oz green pepper chopped
1 cup broccoli tops chopped
salt and pepper, garlic powder to taste

Nuke the veggies with some water in the microwave for a couple mins first then mix all together and pour into a muffin pan that has been sprayed with pam.  Bake for 30 mins.  They can be frozen and nice for "protein meals on the go".

Sometimes I eat one with some fruit other times I just have 2 and fills me perfectly. I am 8 months out.

7/11/07 - 2 months post-op - down 43 pounds

Jul 11, 2007

Today I am two months post-op and down 43 pounds to 175 pounds.  This was an awesome day!  I got to the 175 finally today, and that puts my BMI at 30 even.  If I can get it below 30 I'm just overweight and no longer obese!!  Also, at my current goal of 135 pounds, that puts me just over halfway to goal.  And then this morning I went to the doctor (my PCP) to get him to continue my Lexapro prescription my surgeon had started me on, and he decided to check my cholesterol while I was there since I hadn't eaten yet.  My triglycerides had been in the middle 600s around October 2006, and then this spring it was in the middle 400s.  Today it was in the middle 200s!!  He said he doesn't want to put me on any cholesterol meds at this point, and wants to just continue to watch it and see what happens as I hopefully continue to lose weight.  I'm SO happy to not have to go on meds for that.  That was really bothering me that I appeared to be heading that way.

So I'm feeling much happier than I was a couple of months ago, and again, today was just a very good day for me.  I took some new pictures as well, and I'll post them on my profile here in a bit.  When I compare them to my before pics I can really start to see a difference when I look at them.

So I'll just keep plugging away!!

7/9/07 - Another recipe to try...

Jul 08, 2007

I made these great protein squares!

Melted 2 cups of LF peanut butter in the microwave.  Added 2-3 scoops of chocolate protein powder and 2 tbsp of Vanilla extract.  Then add 4 cups of Rice Crispies to the wet stuff and spread in a baking pan.  Stick them in the freezer until cool.  These will melt in your mouth and are a great treat!  Just need a small square as they are filling!  You can keep them wrapped in the freezer after slicing for quick treat!!
