Stricture and Fixture

Oct 12, 2009

Today I had an endoscopy done to open a stricture.  Apparently I'm darned good at making scar tissue!  Hey, it's an asset, I hope.   The procedure was quick and I feel SO much better.  I had been puking for hours at a time for a couple of weeks.  I didn't call my surgeon because I thought I was eating too fast, eating too much, eating wrong foods... but my follow up was on Wednesday and I was told that if it goes away in an hour or two, it's one of the above.  If it takes longer than that, CALL.

I am now on prilocec twice a day as there is some pre-ulcerated tissue and he hopes it will repair.  I talk to the doc again tomorrow and see how long I have to do liquids.

On the bright side, I feel pretty darned good!

Both the Best and Worst Weekend Yet

Oct 04, 2009

It was our anniversary this weekend and my kids were all gone to see their sister at college.  We had the house to ourselves and had a wonderful time.  I went to the outlet stores and actually SHOPPED without getting tired or winded... (I now know where I'm going when I get to goal!)

We went out to dinner at red lobster.  I had some potatoes and a bit of the cheese dip.  Sat fine.  However, ate the left overs on Sunday and am STILL puking today.  Puked all night.  That was the worst the poor pouch has had it since the beginning.

On the more fun and exciting side... MY WEDDING RING FITS AGAIN!!!!

Exciting!

I Must Be Getting Younger... Was 28/30 Now 24!

Sep 27, 2009

What a fabulous day.  I don't know what possessed me to take out the "black jeans" that I haven't worn in 5 years, but I did and they FIT!!  Not only that, they are size 24!  That's a BIG step for me.  I put on a shirt that I got for Christmas last year that was one of the few that fit me well, and it is down right BIG!!  I'm doing a happy dance!

Apples!!

Sep 24, 2009

I went to the doctors for a check up today (my PCP.)  She was OVERJOYED at my progress!  She couldn't have been more encouraging!

So, afterwards, to celebrate, I took my two homeschooled daughters to a Pick-UR-Own apple orchard today and we picked a bushel and a half!!  I've been canning homemade applesauce all day and the house smells great!!

Next I am going to try apple butter and apple jelly.  I am also going to make a no sugar added pie for a diabetic neighbor who never gets to leave her house.  What a great day!!

Fell off the map!

Sep 20, 2009

Hi fellow WLS travelers!  It was brought to my attention that I haven't posted in a while and by golly, the time has FLOWN!  Tomorrow will be 4 weeks post-op.  I have dumped 3 times- all this week.  That wasn't fun but it's all part of learning what I can and can not tolerate.

I can't believe how many ways I can eat refried beans!  Well, not so many but I change my bowl so it SEEEMS different.  Amazingly enough, if you told me two months ago I'd eat refried beans several times a day or week, I would have said BORING, but when I add unflavored protein and a little cheese, it's filling and pretty tasty!

I have not been cleared for exercise yet but I am allowed to clean the house.  I am not a house cleaner by nature so there is plenty to do!  I found the table, baked an amazing cake for my son and drove to his collge yesterday to deliver it.

I'll post a picture later because I was VERY proud of it!

Took the kids to a family restuarnt.  I had cottage cheese and a bowl of chili.  I ate about 1/2 the cheese and less than a 1/3 of the chili however with 6 kids in tow, the chili wasn't wasted!  I got a little sick when we first got there, I assume, from the greek yogurt I had for breakfast... as it was the only thing I'd eaten, I don't know what else it could have been.  However, I had some last night and it was fine.  So I just don't know.

The importance of writing things down is now becoming crystal clear because there are lots of things that can trigger something now feeling good.  I had a really good dinner the other night and all seemed well but about an hour later, in the  car with my sisters going to a Pampered Chef party, I just started puking.  SOMETHING wasn't happy- it was the first time I'd eaten two different meats at the same time... after about 10 minutes, I was fine.

I was down two more pounds today so I'm doing the happy dance.  I have been so busy with meetings this week.  Hard to understand how volunteers have so many meetings and at EVERY meeting... FOOD.  Not being able to eat is facinating because you can really get an idea of how we, as a culture, socialize.  It seemed that every person in that room complained about their weight and said, "pass the dip."  I guess overeating is fine if you remember to complain while doing it.

None of that stuff looked good to me at all.  I had my crystal light in a big 24 ounce bottle and that was my goal.

Overall, I feel great!  A little tired but I haven't been sleeping on a regular schedule due to the new school year and all that stuff...

I read stuff every day and thanks for being on this road with me!!

First Post-OP! WOO HOO Puree!

Sep 04, 2009

I have lost 18 pounds since surgery and I feel terrific.  That's a total loss of 41 pounds for me since I decided to make this life changing decision.  My highest was 306 and today I weighed in at 265.  The nurse said, "Don't be disappointed... it takes some people a bit to adust..." I said... ARE YOU KIDDING ME??  I haven't see 260anything in YEARS!!

I had creme of chicken soup, all my vitamins and I don't know what I'll do tomorrow.  I realize I was pretty happy just doing liquids... no thinking.

Now the WORK begins!

Jello- Nectar of the God's or Just Jiggly

Sep 01, 2009

I am not hungry yet.  I do like having the texture in my mouth and I am definitely able to feel the difference in my blood sugar.  I am excited by the weight loss, but also ready to eat again.  Friday is my Dr. followup and then I'll be, hopefully, moved to puree.  My Dr. is cautious and I have 100% trust in his team.  I feel very blessed indeed to have come by such a caring team of people.

Green is my new favorite.

3 pounds, are you kidding me?

Aug 31, 2009

I was down 3 pounds on the scale today.  YIKES.  That's a lot of hamburger.  I'm really shocked.  I was reading some posts saying so and so is down 20 pounds since surgery... and I was thinking I wasn't doing well... but then I started to figure out that I was 306 on the 4th of July and it's only 2 months later and I'm down to 268.5... CRAZY!!!!

And exciting.  I wish my energy level matched my motivation and enthusiasm.  I know it will!

6 days ouch... I mean, er... out

Aug 30, 2009

I have one spot on my stomach that really aches.  The rest of the incisions are just fine, but that one spot just pulls.   I can only assume that there was scar tissue in that spot.  I was told that there were a few areas where the tissue was heavier and who knows what they do... I was asleep!!

The anesthesiologist told me that they like to put some people to sleep more than others... HA HA HA.  I had the greatest surgical team ever.
