Happy New Year.....
My weight has been acting crazy.  One day I'm up to 170lbs, next day I'm down to 163lbs.  It's probably just my scale but who knows.  Of course I still haven't gone to get my blood work done. (I know...smack my hand, bad girl) I have no excuse.  I'll let you know my results when I finally go to get it done.

I created a post the other day called "
WLS: I wish someone would have told me..." I think it's a good post for Pre-Ops.

So I never made it back to finish my last post. It makes more sense to just write a new entry.  I've been doing better with eating and vitamins, which has been very difficult with the holiday season.  Some days, I feel faint a couple times a day, so I know that my vitamins must be deficient somewhere. It could also be that I'm not eating as often as I should because I usually feel faint when I missed a meal or something.  I still haven't had time to get my blood work done, which is not a good excuse. I need to make time. It's funny because the days I have time to get the blood work done, I end up eating (I need to fast for the blood work).  As I'm typing I realizing that I haven't eaten yet (it's about 10:30am).  I think I'm going to head out and get this blood work done. But before I go, here goes a recent picture of me and the baby.

Ok, how long has it been.....I feel like I haven't been on here for ever.  Thanks for the nudge saymyname.

So on with the update. Things have been going great. The baby is more wonderful everyday. She never ceases to amaze me. With my weight loss journey, the road has been a little bumpy.  I have been completely forgetting to take my vitamins.  I had to buy a dry erase board and calendar and put it next to my bed, so I could write a message to myself everyday to take my vitamins.  I went to my doctor a couple of weeks ago, so I could get my blood work checked. Of course I haven't gone yet because I forgot, I will be going to get that done next week.  I keep forgetting to eat, then by the time my body forces me to remember I have had to grab something that's not always the best to eat.  So to help me with this problem, I've decided to create an eating schedule for myself.  This way I have a specific time to eat.  I'm also preparing my meals in bulk.  When I have spare time, I make a whole bunch of meals and freeze them.  This makes it easier so I don't have to prepare them on the spot.

Ok the baby's waking up and needs to be fed, so I'm going to continue this up date later today.  Please excuse any typos, I didn't get to reread and correct this yet.

October 7, 2007 (Post Op After Pregnancy - 160lbs)

Oct 06, 2007

Hey.  I missed my monthly update last month, been busy with the baby,  She is absolutely beautiful and hardly leaves me any time to update my profile.  She was born on August 26 and weighed 5lbs 15oz.  Small right! Nowhere near the 7-8 lbs that my docs originally estimated. She was tiny, but completely healthy.  On my weight side of it, I believe I was 191 when I went into the hospital for labor.  Today I'm down to 160lbs.  That's lower than my pre-pregnancy weight. Amazing right!?! I don't know how it happened. I think it's probably the breast feeding.  Well my baby is 6 weeks old today and she weighs about 10 lbs. It's time for us to go to bed, but I will update again shortly.

Jaila'a Birth Story

Aug 25, 2007

On the morning of Friday, August 24th, I started getting this pain that was different. It didn’t hurt that bad; it felt like someone took their knuckles and pressed into my butt and up my lower back. The pain only happened a couple times that day and lasted about 5 seconds each time. I wasn't sure what it was, so I kept on with my work day. That night I finished packing my bag and put it in the car, just in case, and went to bed. (My due date was Sunday, August 26). About 2am (Sat), the pain woke me up. I started timing them until 5am; It came down to about 6 mins apart.  My doc said to call when my contractions were 3-5 mins apart for 1-2 hours. I eventually fell back asleep.

Around 10am, my stepson’s mother called and wanted to see him. Now this is not an easy drive because she lives 1 ½ hours away from us.  I wasn’t sure if I should take the ride, but decided to go because my contractions had gotten irregular from 15 mins – 1 hour apart.  We dropped my stepson off and met up with my husband’s brother and sister-in-law (she was pregnant too, about 3 weeks behind me). We all decided to go to the mall and walk around. At this point, my contractions were regular again at about 15 mins apart.  We walked through the mall for almost 6 hours, until about 9pm. My contractions were 5 mins apart and much more painful, but still bearable.  My husband and I drove back home.  During this time, my contractions got down to about 2-3 minutes apart. I called my father and stepmother.  My stepmother told me that I should try to stay at home as long as I could because I would be more comfortable.

When we got home, I took a shower and tried to relax but the contractions were much more painful and about 2 min apart. I called my doctor and she told me to come to the hospital. When I got there and changed, they measured me. I was 6-7 centimeters with contractions that were a minute apart and getting more painful. The doctor said I would probably deliver in a couple of hours.  I told them to hurry up and get that epidural doc, which took another 1-2 hours because everyone and their mother went into labor that night. At this point, the pain was so intense that I couldn’t even think.  I was cursing my stepmother for telling me to wait at home (they admit you and start the epidural from 4 centimeters).  There was a lady in the room next door who was screaming at the top of her lungs.  I told my husband to go next door and tell her to shut-up!!! I snapped at two nurses because one couldn’t get the IV in my arm and stuck me about 20 times. The other nurse and my husband were watching the Fresh Prince on the TV and laughing. I wanted to knock the both of them out.

Finally, the epidural doc came. He told me to keep still while he put the needle in.  At that point my contractions were coming every 30 seconds, feeling like non-stop. I couldn’t imagine keeping still while he put the needle in my back.  Well we managed and he got it in. After about 20 mins, I couldn’t even remember what a contraction was.  That epidural took away every thought of pain.  I was on Cloud 9 and loved everyone. I finally was able to go back to sleep.  After an hour or two, my water broke. It felt and sounded like a water balloon popped in-between my legs and water gushed out. The doc came in and measured me. I was 9 cm dilated.  The baby’s heart beat had gone down some during contractions. The doc put in an internal monitor and added water around the baby.  It worked well and the baby’s heart beat went back up.

At around 10am (Sun), I was just about 10cm, but the doc was delivering another baby.  She came in at around 11:30.  They got everything set up and told me to start pushing.  My legs were mostly num, but I remembered someone telling me to push like I was going to the bathroom, so that’s what I did. After about 3-4 pushes, the baby’s head came out. Her cord was wrapped around her neck multiple times. (This is what caused her heart rate to drop during contractions) The doc had to cut it away, which caused blood to squirt everywhere.  My husband got squirted in the face and started swaying. The nurse (who is white) told my husband (who is black) that he looked whiter than she was and asked him to go sit down on the couch.  I pushed one more time and out slide my baby, who was doodooing as she came out. They doctor announced “It’s a Girl!!!” She was a beautiful 5lbs, 15oz baby and came out right on her due date. After the checkup, she was perfectly healthy. I had torn a whole bunch (getting an episiotomy next time), so it took about 30 minutes to sew up all my tears.

August 8, 2007 (Post Op & Prego - 191lbs)

Aug 09, 2007

Update time again.  I'm gaining weight steadily now.  The baby is about 6lbs now. My OB estimates that the baby will be 7lbs when I delivery.  Everything has been pretty much good. I've been kind of tired, but that can be expected.

Someone said the following to me the other day, "you look good Janine. Your face is really filling out. You look so much better than before because the surgery was making your face look weird and hollow." I try not to let comments like these bother me, but I felt like this was such an under-handed comment. I hate when people slip a negative statement in a compliment. How do you say thank you to that. I was annoyed but I let it go because it was coming from someone I normally respect. I guess it bothered me more than I thought because I'm still thinking about it.

 FINALLY SHOWING!!

I forgot to post last month, but things are going pretty smoothly.  I lost some weight last month, going from 180lbs to 172lbs, but I'm back up this month.  The doctor said the baby is growing fine, so there was nothing to worry about. He sent me for another ultrasound just to be safe.  My iron is a little low, so I'm going to start taking iron pills.  Other than that everything has been going well on the pregnancy side.

I went to my two year check up with my surgeon's office. Everything went great.  They said I'm maintaining very well.  It turns out that most people don't come back past their 1yr checkup, so they were glad that I came in.  I went in for the appointment on June 4 and I was 176lbs (and pregnant).

2 year Anniversary (Post-Op & Prego - 180lbs)

May 09, 2007

Today is my 2 year anniversary of surgery. It's hard to believe that I've come this far. I would have never imagined being where I am right now.  Of course, I would still like to lose more weight, but that's on hold until the baby's born.  I'm 6 months pregnant and have gained about 10 lbs so far. My scale is out of batteries, so I don't know my exact weight. This is probably the best thing for me because I was becoming a scale junkie. I go to my OB tomorrow, so I'll be able to give my weight then. (180lbs from the OB)  As I'm typing, I'm remembering that I forgot to make my yearly check up appointment with my WL surgeon.  I'll probably call this week and make an appointment.  It usually takes a couple weeks to get an appointment, since he's so busy.  At this point, they ask us to come back for yearly visits.

Well this weight loss journey has been an excellent experience for me. I would do it again in a heart beat.  I haven't had any complication or problems. This has been one of the best decisions that I have ever made.  I just put up some updated pictures. I keep carrying my camera around to take them, but continually forget.  My memory has been so horrible with this pregnancy.

April 16, 2007 (Post Op & Prego - 174lbs)

Apr 16, 2007

Hello, just a quick update. Here is the baby at 19 weeks:

I'm actually about 21 weeks so far.  I was a little worried because I had lost a couple more pounds, about 5. But the doc said that the baby is growing perfectly.  Well, my weight went back up, so I guess there's nothing to worry about. The only thing is the child won't keep still. S/he keeps hittting me every minute. It's like my internal beat down. I'll put a new picture up here soon, but my hair is a hot mess and I can't take a picture looking like this. Until later.

March 23, 2007 - Post-Op & Prego (2nd Trimester - 174lbs)

Mar 23, 2007

My scale is still broken; although, when I went to the OB two weeks ago I was 174lbs. Things are going well. I have a stomach now, but I think it looks more like I'm full than anything else. I also haven't felt the babies movemement yet. I'm actually excited about that and can't wait until it happens. Here goes a recent picture of me at 22 months Post-Op and 4 & 1/2 months pregnant:
