Post Op day 3!!!

Post op day 3!  Woohoo!!  So here it is....as requested.....my story of the last 3 days.

First of all let me start by saying that the day of surgery went by flawlessly.  My surgery was on time and all of the professionals at the hospital were great (pre-surgery).  So I went into surgery feeling very confident..I was out as soon as they gave me the Versed-I'm a drug whimp I think!!  My surgery last about 2 hours once they started the actual procedure.  My husband said that Dr. Denham said I have some good looking inards ! LOL I thought that was funny.

So here comes the good, the bad, and the UGLY!!  The first memory I have after surgery was the RUDE nurse in recovery waking me up...and the first thing I did was throw up.  Then the second thing that I did was just about rip my covers and my gown off....I was sweating like none other!! Then.....I continued to throw up.......if you have this problem when you have surgery, just know that it is normal to throw up some blood (my RUDE recovery nurse did not tell me that).  My RUDE recovery nurse didn't tell me anything-just let me sit there puking like I was gonna die and did not even offer a tissue to wipe my fast or anything....aparently I was interrupting her internet time!!  I was so aggravated.  I looked over at my husband and said really loudly "I don't like her!!".   I didn't thing that I was loud at the time, but my husband said I was definitly loud! LOL   I am actually going to write the hospital a letter regarding that nurse.  I mean seriously!

Anyways, when I was taken up to my room I had to pee right away.  I was able to get out of the bed myself and go to the bathroom without problem (other that throwing up while sitting there).  Then they weighed me....I gained 4 lbs since an hour before the surgery!!  What?!?!?!  I guess it was from all of the IV fluids

I've been wanting my husband to have this surgery as well....the morning after surgery I woke up and wanted to call and tell him to "put down the doughnuts and get on the eliptical", because at that moment in time, there was NO WAY that I would have recommended the surgery......keep reading.....

Later that day...about 22 hrs after surgery, my surgeon came into see me.  He's such a great surgeon-very sincere in his caring and has greaat surgical skills as well.  Anyways, he was fully updated on what was going on with me and first of all said that he was sorry.  He said that they were planning on switching me to a different narcotic, but then he asked if I would rather be switched to a non narcotic since I was having sooooo much nausia.  I said YES, PLEASE give me something different, because apparently I'm not a good candidate for being a druggie!  So literally-after about 24 hours...2 hours after I had my meds switched, I felt like a whole NEW WOMAN!!!  WOW!!  What a difference!  I felt like a normal human being again

Later that evening they started me on the clear liquid diet-I had broth (which was horrible), jello (yum) and diluted apple juice and diluted cranberry juice.  Everything went down slowly but surely and I felt great.

I got to go home about 50 hours after my surgery.  I had to stay in the hospital an extra 6 hrs, because my phosphate was low, so they had to give me a special IV before I could go home.

My husband and my mom have been VERY helpful! My hubby got my breakfast all ready for me this morning, complete with my little medicine measuring cups!  My daughters been a great little nurse as well

So..now I would recommend the surgery to ANYONE who is considering it, and to anyone in the Chicagoland area, I would recommend that you see Dr. Denham in Evanston!  HE is GREAT!!

Just be prepared that the first 24 hours may just..well...SUCK!  After that, it's WAY better!

Oh, by the way...I bought some children Liquid suspension Tylenol to take-because taking pills made me kinda nervous....well, I forgot to check for sugar content until I was swallowing it.....it has high fructose corn syrup.....yep, you guessed it....10 seconds later and it was right back up!  Oh well, you live and learn in this game!

God Bless you all,

Kelly
