One week post op

Mar 18, 2009

So last Thursday I had RNY surgery.  I hate to say this because it feels as if i'm bragging, especially to those of you that read this and had complications, but I will be honest.   This has been much easier than I ever anticipated it could be.  I had to be at the hospital at 5:15am last Thursday.  THe whole process once i got there was pretty uneventful.  I didn't have to wait.  I was taken straight back, hooked up to an IV, peed in a cup, had the leg tights and pressure cup thing put on my legs and then i said "see ya later" to my husband and my mom and i was wheeled back to the surgery waiting  room.  I had numerous people stop by and speak, the staff was awesome!!!!!  I was wheeled into the surgery room and was asked to move over to the table and that was it.  The next thing i remember is waking up to my mom and my husband.  I was sore, but the morphine took care of that.  i slept the first 24 hours away in between the awesome nursing staff waking me up to take vitals such.  The only complication which really wasn't a complication was my O2 stats would drop when i fell asleep.  I kept saying to the nurse that i was holding my breath.  Either way,  i had oxygen up my nose for the majority of the time that i was there.  I stayed in recovery all day Thursday and till noon on Friday......then finally a room!!!!!  The rest of the time in the hopsital was just kind of boring, i mean , i slept, I watched TV, i slept, I watched TV.  I asked for pain medicine on the 4th hour without fail.  NOt that i was reallly hurting, but I was afraid I would, so I stayed doped up.  Fabulous sleep when you are doped up.  A had a few visitors and some flowers which always makes a girl smile on Friday.  Saturday morning came around and yup.....time to leave and go home!!!!!  My husband came about 11am to pick me up and to my surprise my bestfriend flew all the way in from Chicago to surprise me.  We both cried!!! LOL  Oh the worst part of th whole hospital experience was the removal of the catheter and the JP drain....sucked ASS!!!!!!!!!

Finally, home sweet home!!!!!!!!!!  THe first thing i do is go straight to the shower.   take a shower, put some clean clothes on, hair up in a towel, and head to the couch with my bottle of chrystal light.   I am sure there were more events that have lead up to being 1 week post op, but that is for another time.  I went from 222 the day of surgery to 234 coming home from surgery to being a week post op at 217.  The is pretty much it.  I am having problems with the vitamins.  they are just soooooooo chalky, but i'm getting them in.  Also, i feel its impossible to get 64oz of liquid in a day.  Protein in fine, easier than i thought.  No nausea, no pain, LOTS OF GAS!!!  If you were not a burper or farter in front of your loved ones before....well my friends.... you'll have to get over it because after surgery.....ha ha ha.  Lots of gas passing.  hahaah didn't bother me before, doesn't bother me now.   Well, i'm going to go drink some food, hope you guys have a great day!!!!!
