1/2 the person I used to be! 141 pounds gone!!

Apr 22, 2013

At my heaviest, I weighed 282 pounds.  I am 5'3".  I was built like the letter O.  I was miserable.

On August 31, 2008, I had roux en y (gastric bypass surgery).  I needed to save my life.  At the time, my Mom was on a ventilator and recovering from almost dying.  I did not want to follow in her steps and knew that getting my insurance approval meant I had to be selfish and have the surgery.  I only spent 1 night in the hospital because Mom was so sick.  I traveled to Barix Clinics in Michigan.  Had surgery and drove back the next day.  I was deathly allergic to the liquid pain medication so went without any pain meds, after having my guts completely re-arranged.  I spent my days in recovery, sitting by my Moms side at Mount Carmel West. During the early days of my surgery recovery, a code blue was called on my Mom.  She almost died again.  I tried to truck forward and celebrated none of my weight loss success.

Fast forward to Saint Patrick's Day weekend 2013.   My fiance's daughter Amber and her boyfriend introduced Clay and I to Advocare.  We wanted to help the kids out and wth?  I only had some weight to lose.  What a difference a month and 1/2 makes?  Since starting the 24 day Advocare Challenge, I have lost 16 pounds!! 16!!

I am officially 1/2 the person I was here:

This 16 pound weight loss dwarfs my previous 125 weight loss in size but surpasses any and all weight-loss success I have ever achieved. I feel amazing.  And better...I am proud of me.  I am enjoying my success.

Everyday, I thank God for the Advocare program.  It has not been a diet for me.  It has been a complete life overhaul.  Physically. AND MENTALLY.  My health and nutrition are my number 1 priorities.

So, what does the future look like?

I am planning to run in my first 5K on May 19, 2013
I am going to Kings Island to ride EVERY ride on May 5, 2013

This song, embodies my attitude:
Ain't nothing gonna break my stride!

4 months out!!

Dec 28, 2007

I can't believe that the first few months have passed so quickly.  I have steadily settled into my post WLS routine.  I eat 6 small meals a day and fight to meet my protein goals.

As of this morning, I have lost 63 pounds!  I am going to train for my first 5K in February.  The AHHHHHnold Classic is in Columbus and they sponsor a winter run.

The surgery has changed my life in so many ways and I feel so blessed.

Cheers to the New Year and the New me!

My husband and I are having an OSU/Michigan Party.  I have agonized over the munchies we are going to serve.  I want it to be healthy and yummy.  We decided on:

1. Veggies and Ranch Dip(made with lowfat sour cream).
2. Mexican Dip - This is made with cream cheese, hormel chili in a can, and low fat cheddar cheese.  It is bubby and yummy.  We are serving it with whole wheat tortilla chips.
3. Meatballs with sauce in the crockpot.
4. Bratwurst and Turkey Hot Dogs - on the grill
5. Potato Bake
6. BUCKEYES!

And - chips.

Should be fun!

10 Weeks Out - The journey continues

Nov 14, 2007

I cannot say enough how happy I am to have had the surgery.  I have more energy and I feel good about myself.

I work out at least 5 days a week.  I never thought I would love it, but I do.  I love to push my body.

I am finally buying new clothes to fit my shrinking body.  It is so much fun to shop in the normal department.  As an adult, I have always shopped at Lane Giant, Macy's, or Added Dimensions(my favorite fat store name!).  I am overwhelmed by the selection of clothes at a decent price.

A few co-workers are also considering the surgery.  They are watching my progress.  I try to be as honest as possible and not just paint a rosey picture.

I feel like a new woman and so look forward to next couple of months.

Almost 1 month post op and feeling great!

Sep 26, 2007

I had the RNY GP Surgery on August 30.  I was in the hospital for only one evening and felt so good that I came home.

I started exercising at 5 days post op!  For the first two weeks, I felt
phenomenal and then I took a minor dip.  Honestly, I think I was doing too much!  I just wanted to sleep.

So, I listened to my body and started resting more.

At my two week appointment, I had lost 22 lbs!  Wow, am I lucky!

Now, I am just trying to focus on eating right, drinking my water, and exercising.

I feel like a new woman!!

Happy 4th!

I finally received my surgery date today - August 15!  I am excited for the new life journey.

It is funny - my husband is scared that I am going to take the "Big Dirt Nap," but I am thrilled at the concept of a healthy life.

I have always been chubby.  So, I am not even sure what it will feel like to shop in a regular store.  Ann Taylor watch out.
