Oh gosh, over a year since i posted

Dec 30, 2011

I have been on a verrrrrrrrrrrrry looooooooooooooong stall, up a pound, down a 1/2 pound, up 2, down 1, etc. You get the picture. This has been going on since Dec, '10. I am down about 80 pounds and would like to lose another 20 before i research any plastics. My insurance is now an HMO so not sure they will pay for tummy tuck or anything, but I was still planning to check.

I have to have eye surgery. My upper lids are sagging down so hopefully the insurance will pay for that. Probably going to have my arthroscopy done a 2nd time on my knee. Still can't walk. Pools are fun and i may try with a friend to go just across the street to the gym and use their indoor pool (i am not an indoor pool person really, but hopefully my friend will encourage me. We are thinking of doing water aerobics like i did several years ago).

Have to go see the hematologist next month to see where iron levels are. I am always taking my vitamins--meaning I don't skip, sometimes may take a few hours later, but always by the end of the day I get them in.

I just sent Dr. K an email about my vitamin D being in the low 30's forever. He said he will check my record and get back to me about the vit. D injections and the cost.  Also, I told him my PCP wants a direct order from him on what labs to draw. I was getting labs done every 3 months, but he said only 6 months to a year. I think things can change so much in just a couple of months, but hey what do I know, right?

I am eating right. I do enjoy "treats" now and then. I probably could get off the other 20 pounds quicker if I did not "enjoy treats" so much. The holidays are almost done and sugar treats will be gone.

Ok, going to stir fry me up some strip steak and add some veggies--sounds good to me.

Here's to a happy-healthy 2012 for everyone!

The start of Fall 11/13/10

Nov 13, 2010

So things moving along, doing very well lately. Lost 8 pounds in the last 2 months, then a slight stall, at 156 now. Looking forward to 150, my next goal. Not too sure I should strive for a 125 goal weight. That is what my original RNY surgeon had suggested. Dr. K did not give me a goal weight. I am thinking now of 140 maybe?

Just had labs done and my D is 19, was 33 for several months. Been taking 50,000 IU of D a day along with 40-50,000 sublinguals as per VitaLady. I guess that is not working for me. Going back to 150,000 IU of D taking without food per a peep. I am checking out going to Dr. K or doing it locally to get a vitamin D injection. May take the bus to see Dr. K.

I enjoy eating so much now and know I will suffer the consequences if I eat something that may make gas or farting. Keeping my protein level up to 100 to 120 grams a day. Not drinking so much protein shake lately, I got tired of them again. Getting in all my water and then some. My leg cramps have abated a lot, been taking magnesium citrate 4 a day, off the prescription med for the leg cramps.

All in all, things are going great.

Doing great! May 5, 2010

May 05, 2010

I don't know why, but have to retype my blog today, it did not go through. I am doing very well, down 64.5 pounds, had a stall for only couple of weeks, lost 2 1/2 last week and 1 pound this week at TOPS. going to see Dr. K for my one year surgiversary visit, tomorrow is my appt. Going to drive down there today, Art is taking me. I just do not trust myself to drive for any length of time. Staying at the Best Western, where we always stay. Nice place.

Had some bowel issues, as many have, but I got reamed for it, well because my boss said it smelled bad a lot of the time. I am pretty sure is because of the company that comes over after work. She keeps her bathroom spotless and very decorated, and, of course, smelling nice with candles, etc. So I go in and fart and yes it does tend to linger, she does not like that. Now I go outside to fart. Did you know that EVERYBODY FARTS, average 14 times a day I read. So at home, I fart freely. Art may say something, but we laugh about it, and guess what, he farts too just as freely. We are not shy around each other, don't think it is necessary around close family and even parents. Gosh, they fart too. So I will be starting to work from home and really looking forward to it now. It is a blessing in disguise. Now I can be cool and comfortable in my AC just as cold as I like and boss not telling me it is too cold and she shuts the AC off, and it is usually the window AC which is very noisey anyway.

On track with vitamins. After two infusions end of Feb, serum iron came up to 70 something, but D still tanking, about 33. Michelle (Vitalady) said to take sublingual D3 so I have been using 20,000 IU a day, I may up it. She said 10 or 20,000, would more hurt? I get labs from Dr. K in August, but may have PCP run some labs before then.

I am a happy camper, moving right along down, down, down. YEAH!

March 2010

Mar 13, 2010

Wow, it has been a long time again. I have been reminded a few times to update and just never took the time.

I am now down 62 pounds and just fit into a size 12 jeans, woo hoo! I can't believe it! My daughter is on her way over to take new pics of up and to help me upload them. For some reason, I could not upload pics from New Years Eve, though had done my avatar a few times previous, don't know what I am doing wrong or not doing right.

So I forge ahead and doing really well. Been catching myself a few times eating too fast like at work and boss wants us to get back to work, I will eat faster; I don't want to and find if I watch t.v. or read while I eat, I do eat slower (though they say you should eat at a table sitting down and not doing anything else). I never went by that rule. I usually like to watch the t.v. while I eat.

I started drinking regular milk as opposed to soy milk the last couple of weeks, but when I make a shake now, I use water. I never liked them with water before, but now it is okay. I need to buy some chocolate shake stuff, been using the cinnamon bun one from Vita Lady, I think it is.

Have gotten a slew of vitamins lately from Puritans Pride, Vita Lady, and a new one for me Vita Cost. I got like 2 kinds from each one, magnesium, copper, vitamin E, glucosamine chondroitin, vitamin D, potassium, super B complex. A few things from the regular store like calcium citrate from Costco, zinc from some store. Well, nevertheless, my pill containers are full again. I find that I have to order vitamins a lot as I just cannot afford them ALL AT ONCE  IYKWIM, but I definitely am on a lot of vitamins. Still taking a sleep aid pherphentamine/Amitriptyline, mirtazapine, and ropinirole for restless leg syndrome, an acid reducer, Gabapentin for my neuropathy, and Effexor for depression/anxiety. Been off of the cholesterol-lowering med, the high blood pressure med, and all 3 diabetes meds for some time. Took me 6 months to get off all 3 of diabetes meds, had to stay on metformin for a few extra months, but the other two Januvia and Glipizide got off right away.

I am 10 months out, and couldn't be happier. I wish more people would understand the remarkable DS, I mean even people not needing any WLS. This woman I know tried to tell me that my heart would be in big trouble if I kept eating high fat, etc, etc. I kept telling her that wasn't at all true, because if we don't absorb the "fat" , it cannot harm us, and we just do not absorb fat like "normies" do.

Also, want to add that I have had two iron infusions, Ferraheme, something like that. Took maybe less than 15 minutes each time. The nurse said I should be good to go like forever. Had the last one done on Feb 26 or end of Feb, and go for lab work on 03/22 and see my hematologist on 03/26. I am waiting for a surge in energy, will I notice a difference or not? So far, been doing okay. Just moved into a mobile home at a senior citizen mobile home park in Manteca, CA, and been so excited that i have had a burst of energy in unpacking and getting things set up, so don't know if it is the iron or just a bundle of nervous energy, or the excitement of the move? There goes my new dryer buzzing,  did I say I love this place?

Long time coming

Dec 13, 2009

I didn't realize it has been so long since I blogged. Things are going quite well as far as my DS. Some times I do eat more carbs than I should and I pay for it dearly. Then I cut back to mostly just protein. I have lost 53 pounds in 7 months. Yeah it is slow, but I am tickled pink that the weight is coming off. I am now in a size 14 and XL tops. Fitting into all the tops I got after my gastric bypass. I had bought a lot in that size, XL. Need more hangars and more room in my closet, ha ha.

Art is not as nice as he was on our trip to Delano when I went for surgery. He can be a real drag sometimes.

I still have my bum knee (medial meniscal tear) to deal with. I hope after the first of the year to have arthroscopy surgery on it. Have to find a new insurance plan first.

Cleaning out the extra bedroom, clothes, clothes, and more clothes to donate ect. We need that bedroom for an office. My kids need to get over here and clean.

Nothing much going on. Dr. K had an 10-year anniversary party on 12/8. I was going to drive down with Starr, but she could not go after all. I know 3 hours is not that far, but my driving the last few years is terrible. A six hour drive in one day is not for me and could not really afford to stay down there overnight.

I need to get some more update photos put up, full length. Will work on that.
Till next time.

Now it is Labor Day

Sep 07, 2009

I have been losing regularly 1/4 pound to 2 1/2 pounds a week and boy the clothes are getting smaller. Ihave a lot of clothes in my current size, 18, some 16's. I got most of my clothes from "Freecycle". A gal donated a whole big box of this size. Now, I am looking for 14's. Have just a few 14's. Every couple of weeks I try on clothes to see what fits currently. I don't want to go pass a size and not able to wear something.

Went to Delano to see Dr. K on Aug. 17. My son, Jordan, drove me. It would be too long a day to drive down there 3 hours and then back home 3 hours all in one day. He says I am doing great. I did forget to ask if I have a hernia. I think I do. I see my PCP in a couple of days and will ask her. I really want to wait to get it repaired when I have my tummy tuck.

So, I am feeling great and eating a lot of things. Maybe did too many carbs the last few days, so I am back to protein mainly.

You know, for a while, I wondered if this DS really did what everyone says it does, that it is the best thing out there. I wondered if it would work for me, and it has. It is truly a lifesaver and a miracle to lose weight so effortlessly. I have been doing a lot of exercise in the pool. Was hoping to get my arthroscopy scheduled for my knee, but the orthopedic surgeon said to clear this leg cramps I get a lot of. Will ask PCP to send the orthopedic surgeon a note that my leg/foot/toe cramps will not hinder my arthroscopy. I want to really start walking again and can't with my knee pain. I have back pain too, but I am hoping that with getting the knee fixed up, I will walk straighter and not put pressure on my back and hopefully will not need back surgery. I have read a few times that back surgery is to be reserved as a last resort type of thing.

Till next post.

Got slammed again, July 2009

Jul 04, 2009

Wow, I am just a glutton for punishment. I posted last weekend that I wanted to know when I could eat a donut. Whoa, what you say?  Well I didn't really want a donut to eat just to eat, but to jump start my weight loss. Some say Krispy Kreme, but since we have no KK here in my area any  longer, I just said "donut", and got blasted for thinking such thoughts. Some say eat popcorn with lots of butter or a cesar salad, other things come to mind, oh yeah KFC, krispy friend chicken.  I believe that some of the newer members just thought I wanted to add a donut to my days carbs. No NO NO WAY!  So nevertheless, I never had that donut and lost 6 more pounds in two weeks so it was for naught to ask that question. I didn't need a donut at all! I understand that many will not believe me or talk to me any longer and so be it.

As we go into June 2009

Jun 14, 2009

Well actually I am doing very well, eating just what is on the list. I did screw up after two weeks and ate a ground beef burger minus bun and some grilled onions. I really got the mallat thrown at me, but I know better now. When I left Dr. K's office on my discharge date, he said "protein and water", so after being home a couple of days and eating soft foods, BF says let's go out to eat and he suggested U.J's, a good famiy/Greek restaurant. I saw the ground beef burger and I said, "hey, that is protein," not remembering the soft food list at home. So I had a few bites and also ordered cottage cheese, which is what I should have gotten....ALONE. Later that night Ihad the runs, wasn't sure why, but next day had some left over burger and the grilled onions, and again my intestines were a churning. It was definitely the onions, and I like onions. Maybe in a few months I will try them again, but they really did a number on me, OUCH! The following week I had some chicken salad I bought at Safeway and that went down fine, no problem. I think there was a bit of celery in it. Got some the following week and this one must have had onions, again they did a number on me. It is really a small thing to give up to have had the DS so for now onions off of my program. As I tell people, "you live and learn."

I am looking forward to having steak and other meats added to my program. Did I tell you I miss a good salad with dressing?

I passed through it and now I am on my ride

May 25, 2009

May 25, six days ago, I finally had my DS, the one thing I was clamoring for for two years, the only thing always on my mind and now I made it. A few musings, 1) liquids go down fine warm or cold no problems. 2) no nausea whatsoever, nothing seems to bother me, 3) wish I was on solids already or at least soft food, I think tomorrow maybe?4) the pain is something else. I wonder if it is the open procedure that is causing the pain. I think there is something to be said for the laparoscopic procedure where your whole abdomen is not cut up. It hurts to bend, to cough, even to move, but hey I will just keep my mind on the prize. YAHOOO I HAVE MADE IT!

Art has changed somewhat, a little nice, more gentle, more caring. Never thought he could do it, but see he can. Why can't he be like that ALL THE TIME? Spending this whole week with him was not as bad as I anticipated, first in the hospital where he stayed with me all the tme, and now in the motel. It sure will be good to get back home

7 days and counting

May 11, 2009

Well one week from tomorrow I will become a new person, someone with new insides. I will be getting my DS. That is, if the the financial stuff can be worked out. That is another blog. I would rather talk of the positive, me finally getting my DS. It has been a long time coming, just about two years since I found out what the DS is and I wanted it from the beginning. I am so sorry myRnY did not work for me. If only I had known about the DS from the get-go. I did not and had to suffer through the pain of gaining weight, diabetes back, sleep apnea just as bad as ever. I wonder will I ever get a good night's rest. l pray a lot by myself and pray that I do not screw up this surgery, that I do not sabotage it and that it works for me. I will make it work. Dr. Keshishian said it is not my fault that the RNY did not work and I should not blame myself. lIt is just that some surgeries are not right for some people. I made a poor choice, but no one told me about the DS. I think all bariatric surgeons should tell their patients about ALL the choices, not just what they do, dontcha think?  And then we can make an informed decision. I wish more surgeons were doing the DS.  Maybe some day.
