My 38 year old story is like so many others.  Over weight since elementary school.  Teased a lot.  I remember my Mom having contests of who could lose the most weight between us kids/friends.  I was the only one over weight.  We had to weigh-in the kitchen in front of everyone.  Lived in a Children's Home during my high school years-emotional baggage there!!  Graduated HS early so I started college early.  Go Me!  On my 1st girls night out (ever) at a dance club this smooth, muscular soldier asked my best friend to dance.  He was drooling cute!!  She said "NO".  Her loss, my gain!  Thank you Melinda.  He sat and talked to me, and the next time I went, and the next time.  I didn't give him my phone number for weeks/months.  8 months later he came down on orders for an overseas tour.  He called and proposed like no one I have ever heard before, or did he?  He just said, "I don't want to go with out you".  I said, "I don't want you to go without me either".  And here we are, almost 20 years later, 5 military moves, one 13 year-old "alien-obducted" teenager (hehe), and about 75 extra pounds.   I was no where near thin when we met and married but I was under 170-160(?).

I have watched 4 friends have a type of gastric surgery and lose weight in the past few years.  Now it is my turn, and I'm ready.  My husband was supportive but not "on-board" until recently.  He is so supportive and understanding.  He has been through the knee surgeries, back and neck pain, and overall pain associated with obesity with me.  If this will help me lose the weight and reduce my pain he is all for it (but more nervous than I am).

My highest recorded weight at the doctors was 248.  I'm currently at 222 and my journey starts 3/15/2007.
