My journey started about 2.5 years ago. I thought that I could lose the weight on my own. I had friend that was going to Mexico to have her sleeve done, and I was told myself, "if she can do it, I can!" There was just no way that I could afford it.

I then started going to a dietitian who was wonderful. We started working on myself and tried with the weightloss portion. I always had "obstacles" when it came to the weightloss portion. Pain, headaches, pulling muscles, timing, etc were all excuses that I made. I knew that I had to work on myself first.

My next steps led me to learning that I am strong and smart. I found a new job that I love with less headaches, which made it much easier to focus on me. I learned boundaries adn when to put up my "walls" and put me first.

The dietitian and I ended our sessions and shortly thereafter I learned that I was going in for gallbladder removal. Luckily, the diet that I was on made my gallbladder last longer. Bad news is that the weight packed on after that.

Within a month I gained 20 punds! I was ashamed. I went to the doctor to see what was wrong if it was something that I was eating in particular or something. I was on a mostly green and lean meat diet at the time with portion control (auto immune diet so to speak). I tried explaining that to the doctor and he basically laughed at me and told me, "I can portion control to by eating 1 borrito that has 900 calories in it or I can eat a salad that has 300." I was flabbergasted! He clearly didn't understand the diet that I was on and the workouts that I was doing. I started to cry and didn't know how to even speak to him anymore.

Finally, my fiance and I were trying to start a family.  I tried for only 4-5 months but nothing happened. I had a gyno appointment coming up, so I figured I would mention my struggles with this. My doctor was amazing!!! She calmed me down and though 4-5 months isn't a long time of trying, she did show some concerns because of my family history of cancer and it being uterine cancer and breast cancer.

Towards the end of the appointment she asked for me to lose 15 pounds and to keep trying and if nothing happens, then we can take xrays to see if other things were prohibitting my starting a family. This is when I opened up about weightloss issues. She flat out said to me, "Gaining 20 pounds in a month is not normal." She asked if I was serious about starting a family and trying to be proactive about my family's history of cancer. I said, "Of course!" She told me that she wanted to refer me to a weightloss program. She didn't explain in detail what kind of weightloss program, just that there were two different options.

I got the call about a week later and started the process and met with the surgeon, and I could not be happier! I may have to postpone having a family; however, if this helps even a little bit with the cancer situation, I am happy!
