3 months out, this is what I have learned so far...

Feb 20, 2007

Today marks 3 months since surgery. The biggest thing that I have learned in 3 months is that I still have a lot to learn. I have had 2 fills and have great restriction. My band life is never the same from day to day. Just when I think I have this old band figured out, it says haha tricked you I am not having that today. Until I can go two weeks without visiting the toliet after a meal I do not plan on any more fills. I have lost over 30 pounds in these 3 months and hope to continue with about 10 pounds a month. I have gotten off one anti-depressent and feel so much better because of it. I have started a new full time job and am adjusting very well to that. The main thing I need to work on is regular exercise, so that will be my goal for the next 3 months. A big thank you to all my OH friends. I have learned so much reading your posts. Thank you thank you thank you. Wow my life has really gotten better in the last 3 months, I feel blessed.

New reward for 100 pounds, Vegas Baby

Jan 17, 2007

My husband told me last night he would take me to Las Vegas when I hit my 100 pound goal.  I love love Las Vegas, he is just so so about it so it will be a real gift to me.  I took my daughter last year when she turned 21 and we had so much fun.  We rented a convertable that we were given at a huge discount because my daughter was turning 21.  We got free drinks everywhere we went, free meals too.  I will post a picture of my baby and you will understand all the free stuff :-)  We stayed at "The Hotel" and went to a spa, it was so fun!!  This will be one great reward.... Can't wait.

Lapband Rules Reminder (this is for myself peps)

Jan 15, 2007

  • Rule 1: Eat three times a day (This is what every body needs).
  • Rule 2: Eat only solid foods (The Lap Band does not restrict liquids).
  • Rule 3: Chew thoroughly. (If you don't, you will not reach the sensation of fullness and be more likely to have food get stuck.)
  • Rule 4: Do not drink liquids with your meals or for an hour after meals. (This will cause the food to be washed through the band quickly and defeat the purpose of the band…to restrict!)
  • Rule 5: No high calorie liquids. (While juices are fine for thin people, we can sabotage the whole process with liquid calories!)
  • Eat solid proteins first, then veggies, then complex carbs

My 1st fill today

Jan 03, 2007

It was such a breeze!!  I had Jesse and she hit the spot quickly.  Felt a prick and she added 1.5 to my 4 band.  Very simple very easy.  I gained a half pound over Christmas and vacation, but wasn't to upset it'll be gone fast.  Hopefully this fill will give me some restriction.  I am starting my exercise program tomorrow.

My 1st week after Surgery

Nov 26, 2006

Monday-I got home from the hospital about 3pm.  I slept most of the day.  They gave me medication for nausea which I didn’t need, and Loritab liquid which I did.  I drank water almost constantly and had some hot tea.

Tuesday-More hot tea, flavored decaf coffee and more water.  Also some light minute maid.  I was not hungry at all.  Slept a lot.  I did try some broth as well.

Wednesday-Today I was starting to feel more awake.  Moving on to full liquids I had some soup and drinkable yogurt.  My girls came over and made pies and rolls for Thanksgiving.  This was an experience for them making them all by themselves.  J

Thursday-Took my 1st shower and got dressed for Thanksgiving Dinner.  We traveled about 10 miles to a close friends house.  Our families have been having Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner together for years.  I decided that one deviled egg would be fine if I chewed it very well.  Didn’t work and it came back up.  That did me in for the day.  I drank some hot liquids and that was my Thanksgiving.  It was great to be together with family and friends but I tired out very fast and was glad to get home to bed.

Friday-The day started out good.  Everything was going well with liquids etc.  I told a nap in the afternoon and woke up wet with diarreha.  It was yucky.  Then after some more light minute maid I pb’d and wasn’t fast enough to get to the toilet and hit the cat.  Poor Kitty.  J  I had heated up whipped smooth potatoes and gravy for dinner.  Yummy.

Saturday-Today I started feeling better.  My husband hung out with me and we watched movies together.  I ate more soup and potatoes, along with pudding and hot drinks.  I had a hard time falling asleep.

Sunday-More of the same today.  I am feeling better but I look like shit.  I am down about 10 pounds for the week.

My Surgery Day

Nov 26, 2006

I checked into Evergreen Hospital at 7:15 am on Monday November 20th.  I had only slept about 3 hours and was very tired.  After initial check in my husband and I were sent to the surgery waiting room. About 7:45 I was called into the surgery prep area.  I filled out paperwork on my personal property, answered routine pre-surgery questions like when did I last eat, did I take any medications today etc.  My blood pressure was taken; I was weighted (only lost 5 pounds pre-op since I wasn't given a special diet).  I was then given a "beautiful" gown, slipper socks and a pretty blue hat.  After I was adorned in the before mentioned outfit my husband was allowed back in.  I was given a shot for blood clotting and my IV was put in.  A surgical nurse came in to let me know that the patient before me was taking longer than scheduled and that I would be going in about a half hour late.  My surgeon came in next and said hi to myself and my husband and then let my husband know that he would come and talk to him after my surgery.  The anesthesiologist came in next (young, hot, great smile).  He introduced himself and asked me about previous surgery experiences etc.  After about 45 minutes the anesthesiologist came back and said he was giving me something to relax me, and that it would feel like I had a couple of drinks.  I felt it immediately, and said yeah I like that.  That was the last thing I remember before I woke up.  As soon as I woke up in recovery they took me to my own room.  After about an hour I asked if I could go home.  They kept me another hour and I got dressed and was wheeled out of the hospital.  My memories in the hospital after the 1st shot are so fuzzy, I guess some of the medication they put in my IV was to help me forget.  It worked.

Meant to be?

Nov 10, 2006

So something very weird happened to me tonight.  A person that I didnt know logged into messanger and text messaged me.  When we tried to figure out if we knew each other, I asked her if she was a part of a lapband forum.  She wasnt but said she was fat and asked me all about the band.  She actually lives less than 10 miles from me and was very interested in finding out more.  It was totally weird and cool at the same time.  I told her that maybe this was a sign.  Two people talking to each other and both being from the same area and both fat.  I hope she looks into the surgery.  GO Fat Girls from Washingtons State, may we all be successful loosers.  :-)
