HOLY COW

May 04, 2009

I cannot believe it!!!  Okay so I know that I watch far too much Little Einsteins for my own good, but what can I say....AJ loves them.

Anyway, I have finally broken a milestone.  I have moved into the three digit weight loss.  I am currently at 102 pounds down.  Unbelieveable......I have only 16 pounds to get to my goal weight.....a totally manageable amount of weight to tackle losing.  When I started this whole journey it was inconceiveable to me to lose this much weight.  Of course you are optimistic that the surgery would be the tool that would work, but when you are starting out, you just want to lose it, the numbers are secondary to the ones on your scale.  But now having met this current goal, the toughest part is reconciling what your body is to what your brain feels.  I still cannot wrap my brain around the fact that I have lost 102 pounds or that I am wearing a size 8 pair of jeans.  That to the outside world, I am considered a normal weight....me normal.....as if.......

I have some work to do.  Getting the weight off is only part of it.

As of today, I have lost a total of 94 pounds.  It's pretty crazy to think that it has happened in a matter of 6 months.  My next big milestone is to make it to 100 pounds lost by the end of April.  Even at my best attempt at weight loss, I have surpassed my other attempts by a whopping 60 pounds....Crazy.

I am hoping that my blog will be better maintained now that my neighbors have hooked up my wireless router.  I don't know what I would do without our neighbors Amy and Van.  They are awesome, and have really been a huge help with Aidan.  Aidan and their daughter Cassie are best friends, and they truly adore one another.  It's great for AJ because he is an only child, and he has someone that is around almost all the time to play with.  Amy and Van help out with giving AJ a place to go and play often.  And Cassie is like another child for us, because she loves to come over to play.  They also have four other children of Van's, and every other weekend, their house is a veritable beehive of activity that AJ just loves.

Hey, my other WOW moment came in being able to purchase a bra from Victoria's Secret, never had that before, and getting some clothes from the miss section.  More info and blogs to come....AJ is calling.....

The Whole Reason for My Surgery!!!

Feb 04, 2009

My biggest WOW moment yet was last weekend with my son AJ.  We took a mom and son trip to Indianapolis to visit my grandparents, and as my son's mother I had to find things for him to do hence an intense internet search.  I found a place call Snapperz Family Fun which was about 10 minutes from my grandparents house.  It was opened by a couple of the Indianapolis Colt players.  Well let me just say that it was well worth the effort, because it was awesome!!!!

Snapperz is an enormous building with a four story indoor playland to climb and crawl and slide through, they have a 24 foot tall rock wall, a bungee trampoline, arcade games, toddler inflatable areas, and three huge enormous inflatables for the kids to crawl, jump and climb in.  The other great thing is that they use a credit card instead of those tedious tokens.  All of the games have a credit card swiper and it just takes the money off of the card.  You still get the tickets, but after counting the tickets, the balance also goes on the credit card.  They also have 10 brightly colored rooms for birthday parties.  And I cannot say it enough it was bright, spacious and CLEAN.

So, AJ and my grandma and I went to Snapperz, and he loved it.  He ran, played, laughed, climbed, and just had a ball.  Now for my WOW moment, I climbed in one of the inflatables with him that had a big ladder in the middle with slides on both sides.  I thought that I would do it once with AJ.......not so, my son insisted that I play with him, and he would wait for me to catch up with him.  Before surgery I would have never even attempted to climb in the thing thinking that I was way to heavy to do that.  That night, playing with my son in the inflatables, climbing, jumping, sliding with him, that was the whole reason for my surgery.  I can now safely say that I am setting an example to him to be active and healthy.  WOW

In the last month or so, I have taken AJ roller skating, which is something I loved to do as a kid, and I now have a chance to share that love with him, we have gone bowling (which didn't turn out as good, since he decided to run down the lane ), We went to Snapperz, and now my goal is to find more fun activities to do with him.

I just found a new place in Melrose Park that we are going to visit next weekend called Monkey Island which is very similar to Snapperz.  And another Mom at AJ's school just told me about Illinois Valley Gymnastics Academy having open gym on Friday nights,  I took him to one of the toddler classes when he was 18 months old, but he was way to wild and there were other classes going on at the same time.  With open gym, he will be able to run and play and not be in another class' way.

I would like to try him on ice skates too.  My thought is he is fearless right now, and willing to try just about anything.  I want to really encourage him to be willing to try anything and everything in order to find out what he loves.  In the process, I am trying new things and LIVING.  Thank you Dr. Joyce and all my friends at Obesity Help for celebrating my new re birthday!!!

Bad Non Blogger

Jan 05, 2009

So, I have been a very bad nonblogger lately.  I decided to lower my monthly payments and get rid of my internet at home since I have a laptop.  Then my wireless access at work decided to give me a hard time.  It is up and running and so am I.
I have dropped 73 pounds since September, and am currently in my stall YUCK.  I haven't lost or gained but a couple of the same 10ths of a pound for at least 2 weeks.

I did realize something strange with me when I weigh in.  Have any of you found yourself making deals with yourself just before getting the dreaded weight.  For a very long time I would always say as long as it doesn't say 2**, and I have been in the 100's for awhile now.  It just shows how powerful that higher number is with your emotional side.

My friend Jen has agreed to be my Jillian in the new year (for you Biggest Loser fanatics out there).  I managed to find a highly recommended video by Jillian to use, my friend Richenda highly recommends this.  I haven't started yet, but a getting the basement TV ready to use, for my Mom time.  I thought that I could use the video a couple of days a week, and go to Jen's a couple of days a week, so I can very my workout routine.  I have to say that I really want to gear up so I can start running a couple of days a week.  I can't believe that I am saying that I want to run, because I have never been a big runner before.  Maybe this surgery has done more that give me the power to lose weight, but also given me the power to want to challenge myself and do new things. What an incredible gift this was!!!

AJ DID GREAT!!

Dec 01, 2008

He was flirting so much with all of the nurses and doctors, he was not afraid in the slightest bit, He walked right into the OR with the nurse and anesthesiologist.  He has his day roughly every other day since surgery, with healing, he will feel great, then the next day he is so worn out.  He even had done great with wearing the ear plugs in the bath tub, he doesn't like them, but the desire to play in the water is just too much to resist.

Made MY GOAL!!!

I made my Thanksgiving goal, and treated myself to a little TLC, and got my hair colored.  I am thrilled with the results, Can't you tell by my big smile!!!!

ON A STALL....

Nov 05, 2008

It's been a few days since I have posted.  I have hit a minor stall in that my weight is slowing down.  It is coming off, but I have slowed to about 2 pounds a week, which mind you is still alright and at a normal pace.

More importantly, we took our son to the Ear Nose Throat Doctor on Monday, and it was determined that he needs to have his adenoids removed and tubes put in his ears.  The idea of surgery is a little scary, but I know that it is what is best for him.  He hasn't slept through the night but a handful of times since he was born, and I fear that it was his adenoids were big and not letting him get his restful sleep because he had always snored terribly.  It got worse in the last month or so, and I made an appointment with the ENT.

It is amazing to me that I didn't give it a second thought to have gastric bypass, but I am a nervous wreck over AJ being knocked out for 30 minutes.  I guess that I am having my MOM WOW moment.  But what is scary is we don't know anything about his biological father's side, so what if they are sensitive to anesthesia.......Please pray that everything will go smoothly.  He has surgery on Nov 21.
