Waaaay back in September of 2002 I contemplated having the surgery. Turns out I wasn't at the right place in my life at the time and it never happen.
In November 2004 I had a beautiful son and he became my world. It was in March 2005 when I realized I was huffing and puffing after carrying him up 5 stairs. I remember thinking "Leann! You can't carry your 4 month old up 5 stairs without getting winded...you need to do something or you won't be around to see this boy grow up!" Since I had previously researched gastric bypass I knew it was the best option I had. I went to a seminar at the local hospital and sent in my paper work a week later.
Insurance required 8 months of supervised dieting...so I humored them. Then once everything was submitted I got a call saying that a few months earlier (while I was mid-process) they changed the rules to 18 months of dieting!! I was devastated. Somehow the insurance guru at my clinic managed to get that waived and they took me after only 8 months.
I got my approval in January 2006 and could have taken my pre-op classes in February and had surgery in March....BUT the February classes conflicted with one of my college classes so I had to take the March session instead. It worked out perfect because I only has to miss a week of class at the end of the semester.
I had lost over 100 lbs at my lowest weight. Then in August 2007 I had to have a hysterectomy and the weight started to creeep back on after that...I'm not sure why or if it's connected at all or just a coincidence.
Now, here I am in 2018 contemplating a revision because I have gained almost 100% of my weight back. I don't know where I went so wrong...but I see what I eat and those around me and I don't know that it's ME. I know that sounds like a denialist statement, but others, including my husband have confirmed I don't eat enough to weigh what I do. It's very frustrinating and I'm at a loss (or a gain I suppose really).
