199.4 today!  Yippee...does that mean that I'm apart of the century club now?  I see my surgeon on 5/14...if I'm still losing weight...NO FILL.   I am learning...water moves the weight.  I hovered at 202 for weeks and I was doing cardio...go figure.  This week I slacked on my cardio...I mean no exercise this week except for the walking I get at work.  However, I was compulsive about getting my water in...finally, I moved!

Well, we'll see where I am 5/14...my surgeon had a patient who went one whole year without needing a fill...hmmm  I think I'm going to need the extra help.

Had my first follow-up appt w/ my surgeon.  Everything went well...incisions healing nicely.  He advanced my diet to soft foods and wants to see me in 4-6 weeks.  He will then determine if I need a fill.  If anyone has some good ideas for soft foods...let me know.  I got tuna, eggs, cottage cheese, etc.  Any others?  I feel great ...more energy.  Man, it's hard to get in the protein.  I'm working on it!

3/4 My surgery experience

Mar 04, 2009

Hi everyone!  Thanks so much for your prayers.  I went through surgery without any complications.  Here's my experience:

I arrived at my hospital (where I work) at 06:30 for a 08:00 surgery time.  I was given Pepcid and a nausea wonder drug that's normally used in oncology patients to decrease nausea post-op.  Apparently, this med was introduced to anesthesia groups for WLS about a year ago.  Anyway, I provided my advance directives to my nurse.  Yes, this is a necessary step...it gives your wishes should anything occur during hospitalization.  Then, I was taken to the holding area.  My husband was allowed to go with me, too...nice!  Here my surgeon and anesthesiologist met me and we discussed the procedure.  Lap band...5 tiny ports...one for where my band will be filled...subq stiches w/ dermabond and steri strips on the small incision.  Get it, got it, great!  The anesthesiologist started my IV and then XOXOXOXOs to the hubby.  Off I go to the OR...I could hear the Rocki theme in my mind...LOL  I believe the drugs were starting to work.  When I got to the OR, it felt like a subzero temp.  I had to transfer myself onto this narrow stretcher type bed...I thought they were joking.  Then, they put my arm with the IV into some type of metal trough and then the MASK....pure oxygen...I think I was bit claustrophobic and just when I began to request a bigger mask..................................................a lady asked me to rate my pain on a scale of 1-10...what, you're kidding....it's over....IT WAS OVER!!!!!!

The nausea wonder drug worked.  I'm home and if I could just get rid of this gas....whew...those pains...I would be a happy camper.  Otherwise, the experience was great!

The night before...

Mar 01, 2009

It's 7:30 pm and I finished eating dinner...liquids of course.  I feel really good.  Day 4 of liquids was easier than Day 1 or 2...go figure.  People are beginning to call with well wishes and prayers.  I'm sure my feelings are no different than the ones all of you have felt.  It's wonderful reading all of the blogs and understanding that this too shall pass...well, I'm signing off.  I'll blog real soon.  Surgery in the a.m.......woohooo!!!!

Day 3 of 4 for pre-op diet.  Ok, Ok...today was rough.  I stayed home all day...I needed to stay busy.  I got hungry. However, my soup was wonderful for dinner and I had a tasty low fat, low carb, low sugar smoothie.  It truly is the little things...LOL
I have family here rooting me on, however, I've noticed, not everyone will celebrate with you regarding your decision to embark on this journey...CAREFUL WHO YOU TELL...especially before the procedure...YOU NEED TO BE SURROUNDED BY POSITIVE ENERGY!!!!!!! An OH friend told me this about a week ago and I've already found it to be true.  REMEMBER, YOU DON'T NEED APPROVAL!  That's ok...some folks can't handle the thought of you no longer being the fat friend or fat cousin, or fat family member.  GET OVER YOURSELVES...

Second day of liquids...not too bad.  Much better day!  Ok, now I'm getting excited.  Monday is the big day and I have to admit, I'm ready to begin the rest of my life!  I'm having the surgery where I work, so I know my surgeon, the OR Manager and the Bariatrics Nurse Manager.  These folks have really been instrumental in my preparation for the surgery.

Well...today is the first day of my pre-op diet.  Actually, I don't feel too bad.  I have a slight nagging headache, but otherwise not too hungry.  The protein drinks really help.  3 days left...a little nervous about the anesthesia Monday.  This is my first surgery!
