Pre-OP appointment

Jun 12, 2007

My pre-OP appointment was a good one.  I met another of Dr. Enoch’s patients in the waiting room and we both have our surgeries scheduled for the same day.  The nurse anesthesiologist was fantastic.  She explained so much information in detail.  My appointment was for 7:15 and I left the hospital about 10:20.  I had to have another EKG as well as more blood work.

I was unsettled when I left the hospital because I didn’t know what time my surgery was scheduled.  According to the Franklin Regional nurse they are usually not aware of the surgery time until the day before surgery and that they would be sure to call me.  That just didn’t make sense.  I said, how can I plan if I don’t know what time I am supposed to be here.  She said usually the physician’s office provides you with a time.  I told her that I was given a date but no time.  As a matter of fact, I was given a date for the pre-op appointment but no time for that either.  I had to call back and fortunately I spoke with Lisa at Dr. Enoch’s office and she gave me the time of my pre-OP appointment and a little information of what to expect at the appointment.  When I left the hospital this morning, I called Dr. Enoch’s office and got my surgery time.  I should report to Franklin Regional Medical Center at 8:30 and expect to go to surgery by 10:30.  So just a few more days!

My new birthday!!!!

May 29, 2007

I will have a new birthday!!  My surgery date is scheduled for June 20th!!!  I'm so excited and nervous at the same time.  It is hard for me to believe that next year this time, I will be at least 120lbs lighter.  This is so amazing.  I am in Puerto Rico right now and the trip has been absolutely wonderful.  I am here with a number of my colleagues after our meetings and workshops are over everyone takes a dip in the pool.  Well not everyone because I didn't.  However, next year I will !!!  Wherever we go I am going to be sure to take a dip in the pool.  My pre-op visit is scheduled for June 12.  I have to refer to my notes hopefully, I have written what I should expect.

Results Visit

May 07, 2007

5/8/2007: Today I had my results visit and everything is ago!  I'm excited and I will be eagerly awaiting the response from my insurance company (NC State Health Plan-PPO).  The following paragraphs should bring you up to date on how I have progressed through this process.

On February 19, 2007, I had my initial consult with Dr. Enochs at his former office in Wake Forest .  This was a very informative meeting, I had an opportunity to meet with 3 other WLS hopefuls at that time.  Additionally, I met with Kari Lynch, Dr. Enoch's coordinator.  This was a rather long meeting as we watched two videos and we each had an opportunity to meet with Dr. Enoch’s one on one.  During this visit, I paid half of the $500 fee, with the understanding that the remaining $250 would be due at the results visit.

I was able to schedule my own appointments with the nutritionist and the therapist and had completed these tasks by mid-March.  There was somewhat of a delay in getting the information from Kari with regard to the appointments with the cardiologist, pulmonologist, and the gastroenterologist.   I started getting billing information from Franklin Regional Medical Center and supplemental materials about various procedures but I did not know who I was going to see and when.  I emailed Kari and within a couple of days I had a copy of the appointment sheet in hand.  Unfortunately, I had already missed one of the appointments.

During the down time of waiting to hear back from Kari, I spoke to a representative that schedules appointments at Franklin Regional Medical Center over the phone.  She was quite helpful, I can’t remember her name right now and I don’t have my notes in front of me so I will have to update you on the name later.  She actually scheduled all of my appointments in Louisburg on the same day.  This saved me all the running from doctor to doctor from day to day.  The one exception was the gastroscopy; this procedure had to be performed on a separate day.  That wasn’t bad at all.  I just had to take two days off instead of trying to juggle times throughout the month.

All of my appointments were very informative; all of the physicians and staff have been absolutely wonderful.  This helps to give me a sense of peace about this entire process.

The WLS support group meeting was fantastic!  I really enjoyed hearing the experiences of others and how they have modified their eating behaviors and overall lifestyle.  Even though I knew that I wasn’t alone in my struggle with weight, I certainly felt better after the support group meeting because I received confirmation that I was correct, I was not alone nor will I ever be.

So in a nut shell my timeline for initial consult to review of results with Dr. Enochs (Feb. 19th to May 8th).  I think this may have been a little longer than others because I ended up having to reschedule all of my appointments that were originally scheduled by Kari.  I would have preferred to schedule all of my own appointments because given my busy schedule, I think it would have been less stressful and more productive to schedule appointments when I would be available the first time around.  However, I am sure that there is some type of policy that Dr. Enochs office has to follow with regard to scheduling the appointments.  Additionally, I believe that there may have been a delay in my getting my appointment list because Dr. Enoch’s office was in the process of moving from the Wake Forest location to the current Cary location.

What I really like about Dr. Enochs and his staff is that when you have their attention, they give you complete attention and I never felt rushed during any of my interactions with them.  I have had most of my interaction with Kari and Lisa.  Both are very personable and attentive. There may have been some down time with waiting to get responses, however when they responded they certainly make you feel like you are top priority.  This is something that I can definitely appreciate.  I can wait several days with no problems when I know that I will have full attention when it’s my turn.

So I pray that I get insurance approval, a mid-June Surgery date, and a full recovery.

Until next time…
