Six Month Update - Half Way Mark

Aug 18, 2008

Today marks the sixth month that I have officially been out since WLS in February. I started out on the morning of my surgery at 371, and as of last friday I am 279. The scale at my pcp said I only lost 1 pound since last month, but I'll know for certain tomorrow when I go for my official update with my bariatric chief nurse. Either way it seems like a stall, but she explained it this way - in those months that it seems like you've lost nothing, your body is simply trying to catch up with the way it (the body) is changing - resculpting itself as the weight comes off.

I started wearing a 5 - 6x in shirts, and am now in loose fitting 3x shirts (I still prefer shirts that fit loose on me until the tummy is completely gone). I also started wearing 58 pants and yesterday bought jeans that are a 46 and fit great.

Went from being a type 2 diabetic taking 300 units of insulin daily to no longer being a diabetic altogether. At the highest point, medically, I was taking as many as 12 different types of prescriptions daily. From diuretics to high blood meds, to heart meds, to treatment for gout (which I never believed I had), to cholesterol meds...you name it.

In 2001 I was diagnosed as having congestive heart failure - the cardiologist stated at that time that my heart was performing at 20%. I was healed of congestive heart failure months before the surgery even took place. When I saw the anesthesiologist that examined me a week b4 surgery they were astounded that my heart was performing very well above normal and they commended me.

Now the only prescribed meds I take are one to prevent gallstones (which I will be done next month taking those) and a half a pill for blood pressure (which I will be done with those when I see my pcp in november).

It feels soo great to see such accomplishment in my health and wellness as a result of this wonderful tool. To look on my list of goals b4 surgery and see so many things checked off that list. And to know that my journey has just begun and even greater wow moments await me.

I echo the words I heard others say b4 I was a post op'er - My only regret is that I didn't have the surgery sooner :)

*Edit: As of my 6th month visit, I'm down 104 pounds !!!

Unofficial Centruy Mark

Jul 18, 2008

In December 2007, my primary care physician records my weight as being 380 lbs. So in my mind I have unoffically lost one hundred pounds. Unofficially because on the day of surgery my weight was 371 - but it feels so good to have made such an accomplishment when after so many years of failed efforts I'm finally winning!

Thank God for this phenomenal tool!

Into The Twos

Jun 08, 2008

So I am finally under 300 now, of which I am soo excited about. I haven't seen the twos since they've last seen me. As of this morning my scale said 288.8. Though I still feel I have a long way to go, I have to acknowledge that I've come a long way - Thank God!

Three Months Post Op

May 20, 2008

Yesterday marked my third month out. I have lost a total of 70 pounds since my surgery in february. I am noticing a lot more energy than I have ever had! Not to mention how I'm coming down out of "big & tall" clothes into where I've always wanted to be - straight off the rack.

I'm also noticing that things on my goal list are being checked off!!!

This Don't Make No Dern Sense!!!

May 14, 2008

So I'm completely in my "transitional wardrobe" having gave away all my pre op gear this past weekend. The pants were a tad snug as of saturday, but I figured I just hafta deal with it.

How about today is wednesday and the pants are soo loose until I gotta take 'em up in the waist!!! Most definately a good place to be :)

Pre Op Pant Sizes : 56
Current Pant Sizes: extremely loose fitting 50

Pre Op Shirt Sizes: 5 - 6xl
Current Shirt Sizes: 3xl

...And I'm not even 3 months post op yet!

Gone and do the dang thang (if I hafta say so myself)!

Two Months Out

Apr 18, 2008

Today marks my second month post op. Within the last month I have lost 20 pounds, which brings my total to 54 pounds lost since the surgery.  I've been getting a few compliments here and there and it does feel good to know that people are noticing the transformation.

One Month Out

Mar 19, 2008

Today marks one month since my surgery. I've lost a 9 pounds since my last visit, which brings me to a total of 34 pounds lost since the surgery.
I am officially no longer a diabetic (excuse me ) seeing that I no longer need finger sticks. I am also cleared for the gym so I really glad about that.

Two Weeks Out

Mar 07, 2008

This afternoon I had my two week visit and found out that I am down 25 pounds! A pretty great start in just over two weeks. I'm no longer on insulin so after my next visit I'll be done with monitoring my blood sugars permanently also.

Making excellent progress (If I do say so myself)! I can't wait until I am cleared to hit the gym.

Back At Home

Feb 21, 2008

Well everybody, I made it home. I was so glad to get back home cause those hospital beds were unbearable!

My greatest adjustment is getting the water in. I wasn't prepared for all the rumblings my stomach makes...which made me scared to go to bed last night cause I thought something would go horribly wrong. No one told me about this stuff!!

Anyway, my new beginning has begun.

Next Stop - Post Op!

Feb 11, 2008

I just finished my pre operative class, detailing all that will happen on the morning of surgery and beyond. It was quite informative, and I met the person that will be becoming a loser on the same day as I.
