Yay for pureed foods!
Dec 10, 2009
Started pureed today and as Holly said on one of my Blogs, it felt like Heaven! The choices appear endless, and yet I am somewhat at a loss. Apple sauce with protein powder for first meal-- though it could never be called tasty, it was tolerable and packed a whopping 14 grams of protein. Tried the baby food thing for meal 2-- chicken with broth-- I can tell you now it just is not going to happen. It had no flavor and I just couldn't get past the concept. I managed to eat it as it had 8 grams of protein and I did not want to have another full liquid day (and that was all I had taken to work-- will not make that mistake again-- I think multiple options are the order of the day). Oh well, dinner though was fabulous-- pureed chili! I cooked it in the crockpot for hubby all day and then pureed some up tonight. It tasted fabulous even though it does not look too appetizing. So, after day 1 of pureed, I feel good, and tomorrow's meals are set. Then I am in to the weekend and can do some cooking and pulverizing. I am thinking I need to try tuna fish, maybe crab soup, etc. I am trying to decide what protein laden things I can make and run through the blender or food processor and tolerate on the back side. Clearly I need flavor and seasoning I have seen. I think I will do some baked ricotta too . . .
Feel free to chip in with any ideas! I am finding there was a lot more thought in meeting my protein goal today-- I got lazy being able to rely on the easy 15 grams per or 20 grams per protein shake. I actually had to think and double check my figures. I think my main challenge is going to be the no drinking for an hour after. I will have to follow the suggestions and just not even have a drink around.

2 Weeks Post Check Up
Dec 08, 2009
Had my two week with Dr. Brader today. Went well. Incision sites are fine. I am cleared for whatever again. Keep putting benadryl cream on the rash I developed from the adhesive and steri-strips. I am down 12 pounds from my morning of surgery weight and he says that is looking good as well. 6 Week follow up is after the new year. He indicated I should expect about another 15 pound loss by then as I stick to the plan. I am almost through the full liquid diet. I am ready for Thursday when I can start purees-- I need some more variety. I am such a picky eater and have a thing with flavors that I have basically been living on chocolate protein shakes of various kinds and I am beginning to get sick of chocolate! I know, perish the thought!
So, Thursday starts pureed meals 3 times a day and full liquids three times a day. With the pureed meals is when I need to really watch the not drinking for 15 minutes before and an hour after. So, come on Thursday-- I am totally craving Applesauce!

Home and feeling good
Nov 26, 2009
Good evening all. I was released today and I am home, sipping and walking my way into my new world. I am feeling good, just a little sore. Started full liquids when I got home.
Surgery went really well. I woke up up quickly and was up and walking soon after I got back to the room. I have to thank everyone for the suggestions for what to take to the hospital-- the chapstick and pillow were perfect suggestions.
Also glad everyone warned me about weight gain from the fluids so I was less disconcerted to see a 12 pound increase from my pre-surgery weight to post surgery weight!
Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and thoughts!

24 hours to go

Hard to believe that tomorrow is the day. I am nervous as anything and incredibly excited. Clear liquid diet today. Heading to work and will be biting my nails waiting for the call to confirm surgery time for tomorrow.

Little Bummed
Oct 21, 2009
Ok, I am a little bummed. Surgery was bumped to November 24. I had a weight-limiting event. My weight way back in February when I first saw Dr. Brader was recorded. Then I went on the six month supervised diet with my physician. It was complicated by an injury than had me in a boot for a while that resulted in a bit of a gain. So, long and short of it is that I have lost 15 pounds by my doctor's records, but only 2 from my initial weigh in from Dr. Brader's (5 pounds from my highest recorded with Dr. Brader). I am bummed and upset with myself.

Pre-Op Class
Oct 09, 2009
I attended my pre-op nutrition class today. Took my husband with me and he was so supportive. Got to try some of the vitamins, etc. Before I left we scheduled my pre-op physical and history for 10/22. It is looking like I am a go for 10/28. Getting really nervous and excited now-- I can't believe it is only 19 days from today . . .
