I have thought about getting the Lap Band for many years now.  I've done research and considered it, but never made that final step to talk to my doctor about it.

This summer I went to Minnesota for a family reunion.  While there of course pictures were taken.  When I saw myself in those pictures I KNEW that SOMETHING needed to be done.

September 8th, 2006 was the day I finally got up the nerve to discuss Lap banding with my primary care physician.  He was totally supportive, and I was up and running. At this appointment I was weighed in - at my highest weight EVER - 317lbs.

First step was to meet with a nutritionist.  I began the process with the nutritionists office, and then got all my clearances between late October and early November.  I had to have clearance with Psychology, Pulmonology, Cardiology, as well as an EGD and a sleep study.  The EGD showed mild gastritis and a small hiatal hernia.  The gastroenterologist prescribed omeprazole and told me I had GERD - which I never knew!  The sleep study showed no sleep apnea - tho it was one of the worst experiences of my life. *lol* Being a stomach sleeper I absolutely could NOT get comfortable enough to sleep until I gave up and slept on my side!

At my monthly follow up with the nutritionist in November I was ONE pound away from my 10% goal - and I was sooo disappointed.  I had to wait until December then to get my clearance from the nutritionist office!  When I got there in December I had lost 40lbs instead of the 31.7 they wanted me to!

I continued to lose more weight every month.  I did the 2 classes Albany Med required, and on 1/12/07 I got my appointment to meet the surgeon!  When I finally got to see him on 2/15/07 (the day after Valentine's Day dropped 3 feet of snow on us here in Amsterdam) we slowly made our way to Albany to the appointment.  I weighed in at 263lbs which made my total weight loss 54lbs!  At that appointment I received my 3/21/07 surgery date!
