Pre RNY- I am 28 years old, I am a substitute teacher (I was laid off when the economy got bad), am a Type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump, and live in WA State. I am scheduled to have a RNY on July 30, 2010 and am extremely excited and nervous all at the same time! I have thought long and hard about having this surgery, and finally decided that even though I am a self pay, and it is very expensive, my life is worth it. My hopes are that this surgery will help my diabetes (as I am very insulin resistant). I am looking forward to a whole new life where I can experience things that I never would have before because I let my weight stop me.

8 months post RNY- I went from 333 pounds and a size 26/28 pant and 3x top, to 217 pounds, and a size 12 pant, and XL or L top. I am off all medications except insulin, and my blood pressure and all other co-morbidities are gone (except diabetes). I went from using an insulin pump (350 units daily) to not having a pump, and only injecting 5-15 units daily. I have so much more energy, and am a happier person overall...sister, daughter, teacher, and friend. RNY was hands down one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I am so very thankful for the opportunity to get healthy. I still need to lose 50 pounds to get to my goal weight of 160, but I am slowly getting there. So, here is a post op RNY picture of what is going on and what I still hope to accomplish!

10 months post RNY-Down to 202 pounds and a size 12 but almost in a 10! Seriously contemplating a career change and going into law enforcement. So happy with this decision. I take every day one step at a time and try to make healthy choices 95% of the time. Still want to lose another 40 to get down to 160 pounds.
