1 Year Post Op

Apr 19, 2009

This posting makes 52 weeks post-op.  Officially tomorrow is my one year surgiversary (4/21/09).  It's been quite a change in many ways.  I reached 199.0 pounds over the weekend, although this morning's official weigh in was 200.0 lbs.  It was amazing to see a one as the first digit in my weight.  I think I was 17 the last time I saw that.

I finished out my year with a 5-day pouch test.  I followed the two liquid days fairly closely.  However it seemed like I was back to normal eating at days 3-5.  That may be right since I really don't eat many high-carb snacks which is what the diet is made to break.  I missed my protein bars, which are back in my diet today.  I really missed peanut butter!!!  That's become a staple.  Otherwise I typically eat tuna, chunk chicken, eggs and ground meat so days 3-5 seemed pretty normal to me.  I did drop 4.4 lbs since last week though!

There are so many pro's to surgery that far outweigh the few con's.  Here's a few that come to mind after one year...
PRO's
Lost 117 lbs in one year (317 at surgery down to 200 this morning) (322 highest)
Down from size 48 pants to 34
Down from 3XL shirts to L - working on medium now
Exercise regularly
Diet is very healthy
Hardly get out of breath
Sex is much better
More self confidence
Continue to adjust goal lower to push myself
More attractive
Onederland
Easier to find nice clothes
Comfortable in any chair
Quit smoking
Quit caffeine
Drink lots of water

CON's
Ulcer continues
Gas
Loose skin around gut
Still think I look fat
Feels like a let down anytime my weight goes up
Throwing up - not much anymore, but in the early months

Well that makes one year of blogging my WLS journey.  I may adjust this list as I think of other stuff.  I'll try to keep posting.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Andy
