I was born in 1978, am 5'11" and am at my highest weight of 323.5 lbs. I was not a heavy toddler. My mom passed away when I was eight and I think this is where my food issues began. I started spending a lot of time with various elderly neighbors who took me in as their grandaughter. This meant bouncing around from house to house after school being comforted with food and attention. I don't think I ate to fill a void, I just enjoyed the social aspect of eating with friends and family and still do. Needless to say, 20 years later and I am morbidly obese but luckily with no comorbidities. After careful research, I decided that gastric bypass is the only alternative I have to really start living. My weight has kept me from achieving my dreams and doing all of the things I know I would love. My journey to a new life has began. My surgery is less than two weeks away (2/11/08) and I can't wait for the world to be my playground.
