Hi I'm Lori. I'm married with 2 sons in college. I have been heavy all my life and have made the decision to have weight loss surgery. I started this journey September 1, 2009. My insurance required that I lose 10% of my body weight before being scheduled for surgery. At first I was upset because, hey if losing the weight was that simple who needs surgery!! I began by cutting out between meal snacking, which was a big issue for me. I work nights in a call center so grabbing for the candy, chips, etc. was very easy. I have also been seeing a nutritionist (my hero Jennifer Hobbs!!) and she has been a Godsend. I also joined Curves to get myself moving a bit and gee it works. I have lost 30 lbs to date and 21.5"!!! I am also a Type 2 insulin dependant Diabetic and have already seen a change in the amount of medication I require. My PCP is confident that once I lose more weight the Diabetes will go away completely. I hope to have the last 10 lbs dropped by December 15, 2009 and surgery scheduled after the first of the year. I totally understand now the idea behind changing your eating habits before surgery. I have the greatest support person in my husband Jim. He attends every appointment and encourages me every step of the way!!! My fear about the surgery is general anesthesia. I hate to be put to sleep. I had a procedure this summer that required a general and the anesthesiologist was terrific so my fear is not quite as bad but I am still nervous.
