Linda, Oh my heck! I know EXACTLY what you mean about family get-togethers and food... My dad's family have always been BIG eaters, and great cooks! I am only 7 weeks out, but I have to tell you that I can eat most foods and getting together with family is still fun... It takes me longer to eat my tiny amount then it takes everyone else to eat their piles of food! Relax, it really isn't bad! Good luck to you!

Hi Linda, I just read your post about being a light weight, and I know what you mean...I'm 5'9 268 BMI 39.1 and when I went to a meeting I too felt like a light weight....It's really strange that when I think of myself I think my weight is terrible, but the truth is all of us are different, yet the same...each of us is at a different place trying to reach the same goal..."Being Healthy"

Hi Linda, I read your post about family support, and thought I'd write you. My mother was really against my having surgery, until, I sent her this web-site, and lots of information about it. She still was uncomfortable, and thought I was an all or nothing type person, but she became more supportive. The rest of my family was pretty supportive. Scared, but they were behind me. Now, they're very happy for me. Give your family all kinds of info. on it, and they will maybe feel better about it.

Hi Linda. I too love animals. having 4 cats, 5 dogs, 2 parrots and 2 potbelly pigs. I just read your post about your sister NOT supporting your decision...I know its easy for them to think this is wrong for us but its not EASY being MO and I feel you need to do what you feel is right for you. Its you who suffer the aches and pains, the stares, criticisms etc for your weight. I know I am so tired of beign sick and tired. I wish you the best in your decision. Jamie

Hey Linda I think the main thing to do first is find a doctor and find what they require. My doctor required I believe more than what Cigna POS really asked for. This doctor will be sending in my paperwork as he has all his other patients and he just asks for standard things from all his patients I guess to meet all the different insurances. I was required to do all this BEFORE I could even SEE the surgeon for a consult but....he's worth it... thats what you need to look for as you do your homework. Call Cigna and ask them what is required... I called several times and got so many different versions I just decided to go with what my doctor required and let them take it from there... I believe Cigna POS is pretty good as long as you can prove its medically necessary. Write if you need to.. make sure to check out "local help" link at top of this website under your state for more info with Cigna in your state. *hugs*

Linda, It sounds like your sister is right. However she may not have her statistics correct. Yes those things can happen. Death can happen with any surgery. The hair loss is corrected with an increase of protein. Suggest your sister do more research on the procedure. I know how you feel my mom was so against me having the surgery, because she is a nurse and has only heard of all the complications back in the 70's when the procedure started. Best of Luck, Tamara

Hi Linda I saw your post and appreciate your anxiety. I have had lap surgery and wanted you to know that there is a yahoo group site called bandsters with over 5,000 members, who you could ask for help in your decision. May God bless you on this special journey.

Hi Linda, I saw your post about the Band vs. RNY. I had open RNY on OCt 30, 2002. I feel great and I have lost 50lbs to date. Yes, the surgery was painful, and I didn't get my energy back for about 5 weeks. But I am thrilled with it now. A friend of mine had the BAND done and she got a revision to open RNY the day after my surgery. I wouldn't do a BAND. God Bless,
